Fourteen and a half minutes of Good Music, September 9, 2008
This review is from: Landfill Breastmilk Beast (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of Cobalt's last album "Eater of Birds", so I was excited to see this EP come out. The Good News is that this EP's first two songs continue in that same excellent vein (heavy guitar, almost tribal drumming, shouted death-metal vocals).
The Not So Good News is that the rest of the EP (the Ritual Use of Fire track) is not really music. It is 30 minutes of mostly quiet atmospheric noise with a few weird sounds thrown in. I am not sure what the point of that track is, except to be filler. If I want mostly quiet atmospheric noise, I can simply turn off my CD player to hear that.
So, there is 14.5 minutes of good stuff. I'd love to see Cobalt come out with another full-length album sometime soon but please, no more long filler tracks. In the meantime, if you haven't heard "Eater of Birds", I recommend to start there.
