Landforming: An Environmental Approach to Hillside Development.,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Landforming: An Environmental Approach to Hillside Development, Mine Reclamation and Watershed Restoration (Hardcover)
I purchased this book based on a recommendation from a friend who sang its praises. So far I'm very impressed with the information provided. I would like to include his review, with which I concur:
This text is essential to professionals involved in planning and designing landforms. The book addresses important aspects critical to shaping, forming and rehabilitation of landforms and includes useful information on hydrology, soils and materials, surficial erosion and geotechnical mass stability amongst others. It addresses large scale earth moving and soil preparation considerations required to transform barren and lifeless landscapes into stable and sustainable landforms. Schor provides compelling reasons for designing landforms with not only a short- but also a long-term land use and functioning thereof in mind. This approach not only results in increased rehabilitation success but also supports a carefully planned future land use. Information is also provided on how to integrate environmental planning and design principles. Applying landforming principles such as varying slope forms, - gradients, and - lengths with various coverings mimicking or imitating natural landforms may result in something which is truly sustainable. A technique with wide applications,
This review is from: Landforming: An Environmental Approach to Hillside Development, Mine Reclamation and Watershed Restoration (Hardcover)
This book describes a technique for shaping landforms that honors the ways nature wants landforms to look and to function. It creates landforms with less erosion, more variability for better ecological functioning, and great aesthetics. It could have, and should have, wide application in civil engineering (including major earthworks along highways and landfills), mine reclamation, subdivision development, and landscape architecture.
