This review is from: The Landlooker (Prairie Classics) (Paperback)
This book is an absolutely fascinating fictional account of what WI was like in the 1870's. It's told from the point of view of a 15-yr-old boy from Chicago who goes to WI for 6 mos. with his older brother to drum up business for his family's harness business. You'll learn about what the breweries in Milwaukee were like, what logging camps in the great timber baron age were like, how central railroads were, how smart business deals are made, and how important life lessons are learned the hard way. You'll see what kind of inventions were changing the world, and you'll be in the middle of the great Peshtigo fire, which was more destructive than the great Chicago fire.
