5.0 out of 5 stars It's not pretty, but sturdy
This is one of those products that makes me think, "if I had a welder..." It's made well with thick metal and is heavy. It's not pretty and there is some splatter from the welding but it'll be about 12" below ground with a bunch of burning wood on it while I drink a beer...guess it doesn't matter. This is a pretty well made product and you'll have a hard time beating...

3.0 out of 5 stars 30-inch round grate
This product was exactly what I needed for my new firepit and works great with respect to keeping the wood off of the floor of the pit for optimum air flow. However, the central perpendicular support (which is not shown in the photo) is not welded at every intersection with the cross grates. When the grate gets hot, several of the cross grates and the outer ring warp...

This is a pretty well made product and you'll have a hard time beating the quality vs. price at a local place unless you know a metal worker. The price difference between 30" and 36" is pretty significant so 30" grate with a 36" or 42" hole is good enough for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars 30-inch round grate, July 5, 2010

This review is from: Landmann 7730 30-Inch Round Grate for Outdoor Fire Pits (Lawn & Patio)
This product was exactly what I needed for my new firepit and works great with respect to keeping the wood off of the floor of the pit for optimum air flow. However, the central perpendicular support (which is not shown in the photo) is not welded at every intersection with the cross grates. When the grate gets hot, several of the cross grates and the outer ring warp and/or bend significantly under the weight of the wood. This happened to me on my first long fire. If you have a 30-inch or greater diameter fire pit you will probably be building large fires with moderately heavy logs. The weight of the logs along with the heat of a long fire may cause serious warping of this grate. The 30-inch version needs at least two cross braces...and they need to be welded at every inersection to help prevent or reduce this warping. Smaller diameter versions of this product may not have this problem because the cross grates will be shorter.

UPDATE: I have been using this product for 7 months now. I use my firepit about 3 or 4 times a month. This grate has warped out of shape significanly more since my initial review (see above). I have had to bend it back into shape several times. I was planning to buy a new one and noticed that the price has increased significanly...I purchased this same grate 6 months ago for $79 and was hoping that the price had decresed. Unless the construction of this item has been significantly improved, I would not pay over $60 for this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fire pit grate, July 21, 2008
This review is from: Landmann 7730 30-Inch Round Grate for Outdoor Fire Pits (Lawn & Patio)
It does what it's supposed to do. I had a custom fire pit built in my back yard and when it rains, water gathers at the bottom of the pit. the grate keeps the logs to burn off the moist ground and lets the fire breath.

I recently purchased the Landmann 7730 30-inch round fire pit grate. The pacakge was received with a week. when the package arrived, I could not believe how heavy the box was.
The grate is heavy and solid has a nice appearence and will last a long time.

This grate is perfect for our fire pit.

The pricing is great too. I always check on item prices at the local stores in my area, then Amazon, Ebay. Amazon has by far the cheapest price with the added bonus of Free Shipping.

Overall I am very pleased with the Landmann grate and would highly recommend this product.
