1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Waste of Money!
I bought this book because of the rave reviews it received here, so I am writing this to let others know they should not be deceived as I was. If this book cost $10 I MIGHT say it was worth the money, but essentially it was 170 pages of large print and screen shots, all illustrating examples of one strategy (not 10), which can be boiled down to:

This review is from: Dave Landry's 10 Best Swing Trading Patterns and Strategies (Paperback)
Dave Landry's first book, "Dave Landry on Swing Trading", is the bible of swing trading. I honestly learned how to swing trade confidently in that easy-to-read book.

Dave Landry's "10 Best Swing Trading Patterns and Strategies" goes more in-depth on specific swing trading patterns. Landry truly simplifies his strategies that I understood everything within an evening read. I was able to scan for stocks and use these strategies the evening I read this book. These strategies have been consistent at finding profitable trades in the 2 to 5 day range.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good strategies, March 2, 2005

This review is from: Dave Landry's 10 Best Swing Trading Patterns and Strategies (Paperback)
For beginning traders there's a lot of information out there. There are dozens of patterns, oscillators, and indicators; at first each one seems like it's going to be great, but after a few losing trades, a person gets confused about how to proceed and just what indicators to use.

The great thing about this book is the emphasis on STRATEGIES -- this approach places indicators and oscillators in their proper role as tools that are subservient to strategy. As a beginning technical trader faced with a bewildering minefield of tools, it wasn't until I started using these strategies that I started making some money in the uncertain market we are currently in.

The book does seem somewhat thin -- the text and figures are LARGE, as if trying to take up more space. There could have been a bit more background and info provided, I suppose. I also don't understand why the man won't use candlesticks, which I find much more intuitive than bars. But in the main I've found it very helpful.

1) Trade with the trend.
2) Enter following a pullback after resumption of the trend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Common Sense Approach To Trading, June 16, 2005
This review is from: Dave Landry's 10 Best Swing Trading Patterns and Strategies (Paperback)
I bought this book a few weeks back. It took only a few days to get the concepts presented. Dave has a "no non-sense" approach to trading that everyone should consider putting in their arsenal of trading tactics. If you are a trend trader/swing trader/day trader/short and even long term trader(could find better entries with this book), you should consider applying some of the great strategies and principles in this book. Dave doesn't make things complicated, and yet the principles are very profound and simple. The book is not very long, but I don't see this as negative, really. It's nice not being over powered with so much information to process. I recommend this book for those looking for something different than the main stream trading books, to pick up some strategies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave Landry - Great Teacher, December 28, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dave Landry's 10 Best Swing Trading Patterns and Strategies (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone who wants to fine tune swing trading techniques. Dave Landry is a great teacher. To learn from him is learning from one who is in the business.

It is true that there is a LOT of information in the book and it will take a person a while to learn the information. However, Dave Landry is kind enough to provide on-going support through his weekly videos and newsletter archives which is available for free. All you have to do is go to: www.tradingmarkets.com/.site and view his archives.

Even Dave Landry will tell you that NO STRATEGY works all the time. Nevertheless, his methods make a living for him and he is a great teacher. His approach works when the market cooperates and this is not a book filled with hype. The methods presented work well when the market condition is favorable for momentum trading. Every serious Swing Trader should own Dave Landry's book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Insight at a Nice Price, August 27, 2005

This handy primer contains little fluff and a lot of insight. It's straight forward and easy to understand. Nothing too esoteric here, but plenty of substance. Read it a bunch of times and memorize those patterns from the guy who invented trading the pullback! Landry's ideas work. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good to a point, December 13, 2005
This review is from: Dave Landry's 10 Best Swing Trading Patterns and Strategies (Paperback)
Landry's book is as good as most books and methods you will find. Only weak point I find is the fact that not enough emphasis is placed on cutting your losses short and let your profits run. And this is the only secret that works. No system or method can predict what a stock will do after you have bought it. What happens if the CEO and the CFO of the company meet an untimely death at the hands of the CEO's wife who finds out that those to were having an affair? How would a system predict that? Only thing you can do is to cut your losses short.

While you are at it, ask yourself another question. If all these pundits know how to trade and make money in stock market, why are they selling books and giving seminars to teach you how to make money? Why aren't they busy trading day and night and making huge amounts of money everyday (and every night using foreign markets)? May be because writing books, selling books and selling seminars are more sure and less risky ways to make a living?

So if you must trade in the stock markets, learn a few things so you can trade (for better or for worse) and not be paralysed with inaction. As far as that goes, this book is no better or worst than most other zillion books of methods and systems of trading. But never forget that the less you lose, more you will retain to lose later!

Having recently read and successfully applied the trading system of Mr. Landry's most recent book "The layman's guide to trading stocks, I ordered this book looking for more of the authors wisdom. That's exactly what I found in this book. The author offers a swing traders treasure chest of information. His system of trading persistent pullbacks triggered by trend knockouts on momentum stocks is a simple strategy that proves to be very effective for assuring that you're on the right side of the trade. The strategies outlined are simple to follow and the setups, entries, profit taking, and exits are explained with simple straightforward clarity. I love Dave's writing style. He avoids over-complicating the subject and instead offers a wealth of decades of experience in an easy to follow outline. This book offers the best information on identifying the proper setups to find and define stocks that are trending. The setups work equally well on longs and shorts. As Mr. Landry states "they slide faster than they glide", I prefer these pattern trades on shorts. If your looking for information on identifying and executing trades on intermediate trends, you cannot go wrong with this book. Thanks Dave Landry for a great resource. An excellent book!
