4.0 out of 5 stars A Surprisingly Subtle Story, July 3, 2000

The reason LANDSCAPE WITH TRAVELLER surprised me was that I was only familiar with Barry Gifford's Sailor and Lula novels, such as WILD AT HEART. I was unprepared for this gentle portrait of a man looking back on his life.

LANDSCAPE is told as a series of musing, not in precise chronological order, of events in one man's life. They are not deep, or inventive. By the end, it is shown that it is how the life is led that is important, not what happens in it.
