This review is from: Landscapes Of Dissent: Guerrilla Poetry & Public Space (Paperback)
Part primer, part field guide to pull from satchel during actions, Landscapes of Dissent skillfully compresses all the theory you need to take poetry out of the page and into the Spaces Formerly Known as Public. By focusing attention on where the poem happens (freeway signs, corporate shopping districts, chain link fences policing the commons, etc.), rather than its content or form, Boykoff and Sand open a fresh window on the hand-wringing question of poetry and politics. They also make visible a network of poets testing the limits of public space and "inadvertent audiences"--who are as apt to engage the poem by tearing it down as they are to applaud--in ways the old codex can't. Essential dissensual poetics.
