Insightful and inspiring,

This review is from: Landscapes of the Soul: A Spirituality of Place (Paperback)
Thanks to Robert Hamma and his book Landscapes of the Soul, which has helped me to look at the places in my life in a new way. In this book, the author suggests that there is no ordinary place, for the presence of the divine is everywhere, all we have to do is be attentive. Hamma encourages readers to listen, to smell, to taste, to touch, and to see, so that we might better develop a sense of place. Throughout the book the author shares some of his own experiences and explains how different places have had meaning in his life. But he also looks at cultural and religious traditions to see how place has had meaning throughout history. One great feature of this book is the exercises at the end of each chapter, which allow the reader time to reflect more personally on places in his or her life and what impact they have had. This book truly is full of insight and inspiration!

This book gives a decent sense of place, but the author ruined the book because it's so full of Christ-this and Christ-that. Enough already. The author doesn't even try to speak universally. A more accurate title would have been "Landscape of the Soul: Christian Places."
