4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and up-to-date - yes! English version - no!
This edition is significantly larger than my 1973 edition. It includes computer vocabulary and both American and British usage. The cover says it has new German spelling (but I didn't see an explanation of the new spelling inside).
The product description on Amazon says the language is English - NOT!!! The inside of the covers and all of the front matter -...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for English learning German
This dictionary must be exclusively for German speakers learning English, or was printed incorrectly as all text describing how to use, as well as phonetic guides are for German speaking people. Generally of little help for English speakers trying to learn German.

This review is from: Langenscheidt New College German Dictionary: English-German/German-English (Langenscheidt Standard Dictionaries) (Hardcover)
This edition is significantly larger than my 1973 edition. It includes computer vocabulary and both American and British usage. The cover says it has new German spelling (but I didn't see an explanation of the new spelling inside).
The product description on Amazon says the language is English - NOT!!! The inside of the covers and all of the front matter - the foreword, instructions to users, etc. are in German (for both sections). There are lists of things, such as the German abbreviations used in the definitions, that include both German and English vocabulary. That's good, because German abbreviations are used in both the English-German and German-English sections of this dictionary. In other words, this dictionary appears to be for German users (except for the outside cover). It appears to me that it was assembled incorrectly. (I wonder if the German version has only English instructions!)

I purchased the _Langenscheidt New College German Dictionary_ because none of my German dictionaries, nor the dictionaries available online, were able to meet my translation needs fully. It disappointed me to learn that this expensive dictionary has less to offer than the free online _Leo Deutsch-Englisch Woerterbuch_.

This dictionary is very comprehensive and, when used as a desk reference, it will have all the answers you are looking for. Do not attempt to bring this book in your backpack, however, because such an action will surely require a later visit to a chiropractor.
