Here's a MUST-BUY item to tuck into your travel bags before you head to the airport bound for China. This book answered questions about Chinese and China I didn't even think to ask. I bought this dictionary to help teach myself to read/translate the written Chinese in several books I brought home from my recent adventures in China. It has both extensive english-Chinese and Chinese-english sections. The radical index and radical chart are great, and the basics section is clear, comprehensive and easy to understand. I only wish there was more to it! Not every word you may be looking for is here, but enough is that you may not care. For such a small volume (relatively pocket/purse-sized) it is amazingly comprehensive.

this dictionary was recommended by the author of Chinese 24/7. It is compact and fits in your pocket. I used it frequently in Beijing.

This is a great help in my Mandarin Chinese learning efforts.
It has covered most of, if not all of what I needed to look up.
No doubt, in more advanced stages of the language, a more
complete and comprehensive dictionary would be necessary
but where I am right now, it serves me well.

Well I wanted to learn Chinese a bit more. This mini dictionary is good, but the only thing though is that learning the correct pronounciation is a bit challenging. The good thing is the size, it is small so you carry it almost everywhere.
