5.0 out of 5 stars durable and useful for students
This is the best Spanish dictionary I have found. It is small yet comprehensive. Perfect for both high school and university level students as far as content and it can handle years of being thrown into the bottom of my book bag.

Well, this dictionary is okay, but it does not have a lot of those necessary everyday words in it. I bought this to use in my college Spanish class, and I use my old, beat up dictionary from high school (Larousse Pocket Dictionary) a whole lot more. This one just doesn't offer a lot to me.

Uses real, modern day english-spanish words and translations as well as having pronuciation guides in enlish and spanish, and in the back has reference material on verbs and many other useful tools. BY FAR THE BEST ENGLISH-SPANISH (and vice versa) available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Durable cover, convenient size, respectable coverage for a pocket dictionary..., July 18, 2007

Unlike other dictionaries that label themselves 'pocket' editions without passing the pocket test, this one does actually fit into my pockets, and has a durable vinyl cover to make it practical to carry around without it getting constantly damaged. Further, its compact size enables for quick searching.

It has about 80% of the terms I look for during my 5 weeks in Mexico (I am an intermediate student of Spanish), and even does a decent job of helping me look up words in an effort to decipher Harry Potter in Spanish.

Often the verbs are located as sub-categories within the entry for their associated adjective (e.g. the verb to stick might be listed under sticky rather than separately in the margin), but this is tolerable once you figure it out.

It does a respectable job of providing context for the various common uses of words where it can, even giving some country-specific descriptions (e.g., checar is a verb used in Mexico alone).

It might be slightly more difficult for non-French speakers to use in those instances where a list of translations is given without contextual explanations.

Overall, it delivers more or less what I would expect from a pocket dictionary in both form and content. Hopefully, more recent editions have overcome some of its minor shortcomings:
