4.0 out of 5 stars Standard French Dictionary, December 12, 1999
By A Customer
I have a degree in French and speak/read/write fluently. This dictionary has always been quite adequate, and explains the meaning of words thoroughly. I've never had a problem at all with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars great dictionary, November 15, 2000

I have this dictionary at my office and it has become my favorite and seems complete for its size. It shows International Phonetic Association phonetic symbols to help with pronunciation. Every French verb infinitive in the dictionary has a reference to a model verb in the conjugation table. There is a section of proper names with pronunciation and explanation; and a section of common abbreviations. (These sections appear for both languages.)

This particular dictionary is thumb-indexed. The plain version is ISBN number 0-88729-055-8, and should cost about the same. The picture of this dictionary appears yellow on my computer, but my dictionary is closer to orange. (orange paper jacket, with blue hardcover underneath...) The book is 2 inches thick.

An especially useful reference.

This dictionary has become my favorite and seems complete for its size. It shows International Phonetic Association phonetic symbols to aid correct pronunciation. And every French verb infinitive in the dictionary has a reference to a model verb in the conjugation table. There is a section of proper names with pronunciation and explanation; and a section of common abbreviations. (These sections appear for both languages.)

This particular dictionary is NOT thumb-indexed. The thumb-indexed version is ISBN number 0-88729-056-6, and should cost about the same. The picture of this dictionary appears yellow on my computer, but my dictionary is closer to orange. (orange paper jacket, with blue hardcover underneath...) The book is 2 inches thick.

Nice useful dictionary.
