SAN FRANCISCO -- Persistence of recipient Langerhans cells after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation may be a risk factor for cutaneous graft-versus-host disease, according to preliminary data from an ongoing, prospective, multicenter study.
Assessment of Langerhans cell chimerism in the first weeks post transplant may prove to predict transplant outcome with respect to graft-versus--host disease (GVHD), Dr. A. Yasmine Kirkorian said at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. If so, transplant recipients might benefit from individually tailored immunosuppressive therapy.
