5.0 out of 5 stars Different tone, but still honest.
Keeping this short. Pretty good CD actually. It doesn't have as many foot stomping moments as the last one, but this feels more honest and personal. Its better artistically, but not as fun. It still belong on my play list of damn good music. I give it a 4.5 really, but I'm rounding up.

3.0 out of 5 stars okay but not typical langhorne
not what i was expecting from him. it's not as raw as is other 2 cds, which is what i liked about the other 2. it sounds like he is trying to be the next sufjan stevens. he needs to stick with the raw upbeat bluegrass.

5.0 out of 5 stars super music, January 21, 2010

Discovered "Lanhorne Slim" through the Travelers' commercial. This is a blend of folk, pop, alt-rock. Have it in my car stereo along with David Gray and Badly Drawn Boy. Fantastic songs and musicianship. Not one song is a throw-away. The album "Be Set Free" is equally as good. The lack of air play is why commercial radio is just a vast wasteland.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very solid album, August 24, 2009
This review is from: Langhorne Slim (Audio CD)
While i enjoyed Slim's earlier releases, this album had some stand out tracks and was enjoyable from start to finish. Excellent for pressing play and letting it go while working or just relaxing. However, don't expect this album to make your top 5 all time favorites or anything. Its a solid good album that flirts with greatness from time to time.

While not quite the album the first release was, Langhorne Slim's second full length is still a freakin' terrific album. It's a quick listen at 36 minutes. I think Langhorne's strength is in his frantic up tempo songs, eclectic instrumentation, and up front production that doesn't hide a thing. This album hits very well on all of those counts, I just wish there were more of the up tempo, frenetic, frenzied, screaming songs on this one. He's lost a lot of the country twinge he had one the first album which I loved so much, yet this is still a very satisfying listen. I don't think he could make a boring album if he tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heck yeah!, April 12, 2009
This review is from: Langhorne Slim (Audio CD)
I heard LS on a NPR review of all things, and completely fell in love. This is on heavy rotation in my house. It's just great music, and the singer has a fantastic voice. The lyrics are also smart and unexpected. It's very easy-going, chill out music with enough of an edge that is great for some whisky drinking on a warm summer night. They have a song called "Summertime" and for me it ranks among the best 2 other "summertime"'s out there--Porgy & Bess and Jane's Addiction.

langhorne slim is definitely not for everyone, but being one of the people who adores him makes it impossible to understand why there are people who don't. for me langhorne slim is the soundtrack to enjoying my life, and his music often facilitates that enjoyment. there is a tragic shortage of artists who will admit that they write love songs and just like to have fun and holler and stomp their feet.

buy this record.
