This extensively illustrated volume begins with the background and compelling life story of Quaker sufferer Thomas Langhorne (1633?-1687) of Helton, co. Westmorland, and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It then treats Langhorne's family in America, including his daughter, Sarah, who married William Biles, Jr., and his son, Jeremiah Langhorne, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania. Sections feature the Biles, Janney, Growdon, and Baker families. Illustrated. Bibliography. Index. Foreword by Jeffrey L. Scheib.

About the Author

D. Brenton Simons is editorial director of the Newbury Street Press, special publications division of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. He is past director of education and special programs at the Society, and served on its Sesquicentennial Conference and Coddington Award of Merit committees. He has contributed to numerous NEHGS publications and most recently edited Theodore Chase and Laurel K. Gabel's acclaimed Gravestone Chronicles II. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, and the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Connecticut.
