Educational summer read,
This review is from: The Language of Doors (Hardcover)
An interesting and educational read. Book easy to carry in beach bag or large handbag. Clear writing with good historic info. Loved that they gave places to see specific styles. Beautifully drawn renderings. Sure made me think more about improving any entrance I own or will own.

The Language of Doors,
By
This review is from: The Language of Doors (Hardcover)
This small book (about 7 inches square) describes and illustrates American residential doors from the Colonial period to the 1940s. The descriptions are brief, but include information about what defines that particular style and what made the style popular at the time. Pencil sketches illustrate each style, with key features and details clearly labeled.
In addition to providing a history of door styles, this book offers guidance for anyone who wishes to change the door on an existing home, with information about the styles of doors found on common residential styles in the U.S. (ranch, foursquare, Cape Cod, etc.). Altogether this is a nice little book with useful information and attractive pictures.

I just reviewed a "door" book and had it mixed up with this one although the former review isn't totally inaccurate. This book has beautiful pictures and lots of information on all kinds of doors including the country and culture of origin. It's also a great history book. Well worth the purchase.
