Great for fertility and beyond,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Language of Fertility: The Revolutionary Mind-Body Program for Conscious Conception (Hardcover)
Niravi Payne is a therapist in New York that I know quite well. Though I am not infertile, or at least I have not tried yet, I do know that she is an incredible therapist who has helped me with a digestive disorder. Though this book focuses on fertility, it goes far beyond that in its scope and would be helpful to anyone with any chronic condition. She had breast cancer eight years ago and used psychotherapy and natural medicine to heal herself. She is now 73 and quite strong and cancer free. I think that says something about the women and her approach to therapy.

Oh, what your past can do to you!!,

This book is fabulous!! I am sorry that the one reviewer who miscarried thought the author was asking that we take blame for what happens to us. I didn't get that at all!! The author explains, instead, that past experiences may have left us with a "bad taste" that could be impeding our success at conceiving. She never says it's our fault. But that guilt, abuse, grief, etc. could all be blocking our ability. Through doing all these exercises, I went through some major catharsis. I won't lie: It was pretty painful at times to face all the horrors that I had forgotten over the years. But I have come through feeling like the world has been lifted from my shoulders. For Example: My mom grew up poor and during the great depression. She had hoped for a better life but instead married and had children, which kept her poor and unfulfilled. As her mother did. My mother blamed her having children for why she was not fulfilled. I grew up poor and am only now realizing that I fear having children because of my mom's attitude. I only wish I could afford to find a therapist willing to take me through the journey. I know I still have a long way to go, but oh, the journey is looking much brighter now.

I felt that this book was very encouraging. I believe that this book is important for those people that want to conceive a healthy pregnancy. This book addresses mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of fertility. It is truly inspiring and helpful.

I am three-fourths through this book and have found it to be a great exploration of both my emotional and family history. Being a counselor, I have spent a great deal of time examining my family patterns, however, the author guided me through the process in a slightly different way, than the conventional Genogram. I found her twist on the basic Genogram to be very enlightening. It even lead to a conversation with my husband, that might not have happened otherwise. I am finding that no matter what infertility book I open, I am not finding "the answer." With this book, I found answers to questions I wasn't even asking.

Enlightening,

I am currently experiencing infertility, and the Mind-Body Connection that Niravi speaks about has been quite enlightening for me. In one exercise the reader is asked to research an Ephistogram--a chart that works somewhat like a family tree--but is much more revealing. With this exercise, I found out things about my family that I may never have known, and whether I achieve pregnancy or not, through this book, I have learned much about how my family's history has helped to create who I am today.

I found this very helpful in helping me to understand women and the way we approach fertility. At times I found it focussed a little too much on your familial relationships as being the basis for fertility difficulties and I think there are a lot more aspects to it, but having said that, the emotional aspect is important and not to be sidelined by a focus on the physical

Opposite effect,

I had a miscarriage last year after a long attempt at conception and I'm trying everything to get pregnant again. When I saw this book in the discount bin, I grabbed it. What a mistake. For about two months, I felt WORSE. The book suggests that I miscarried because I wasn't "thinking" correctly about my pregnancy or had doubts about it. All the specialists encourage you not to blame yourself but this author does just the opposite. If this book helps you, with it's silly exercises, more power to you. My suggestion is to save your money. The discounted price that I spent for it was way too much.
