2.0 out of 5 stars a little disappointed
Most of these games can be found on any ESL website for free on the internet. The book contains some great ideas; but I would save the money and just do a google search instead.

This review is from: Games for Language Learning (Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers) (Paperback)
This is an invaluable resource for language teachers. As any classroom teacher knows, games often add life to a class that is about to fall asleep. They add energy to a class and give the students a little burst of motivation. This book covers a wide variety of games for teaching English as a second language. The games are divided into discrete categories. For example some of the categories are psychological games, magic tricks, story games, and memory games. Since the games are divided in this way, it becomes easy to find the game that will suit your classroom goals. I've used the ideas in this book many times in my classes and they work well.

This review is from: Games for Language Learning (Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers) (Paperback)
This book contains many games grouped into helpful categories such as picture games and sound games, and for each game there is an overview of time, level, materials, skills, and language. I especially like the games because most are simple, don't require complex materials or a lot of them, and can be easily adapted or modified. I would definitely recommend this book to ESL teachers of any level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for interesting lessons, May 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The book is fabulous if you are eager to creat challenging classes. The book is clever-structured with lots of variations, so that you feel flexible and free in expanding the activities. It is devided into part according to the main spheres the actives are intended to develop, e.x. mainly speaking, reading, or listening. The first part includes warmers which are just wonderful. The Cambridge series of handbooks for teachers is remakable sourse for teachers of different levels, abilities and ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get a copy now, April 2, 2010

This is a book that you can use over and over again. If you're an ESL teacher, make sure you have a copy. There's nothing to print or photocopy, so save a few trees and get the kindle version. The table of contents is excellent and you can easily adapt the tasks. My learners enjoyed the games and a game is probably the most memorable way to end a lesson.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book: waste of money!, January 9, 2012
Unless you need ideas for making flashcards for memorizing vocabulary and think this is a clever "game", do not buy this book. It is a waste of money. Fortunately I bought the Kindle edition and was able to return it. It is unfortunate, because the Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers usually turn out to be good value. This book just contains a lot of meaningless games that are found in the most basic of textbooks or websites (usually for free).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Resource, November 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great book! I must confess, a few hours before my grammar class, I made a last minute decision to change the activity for the day. I saw this book and decided to buy the Kindle version, and I found the perfect activity to go along with the topic of the day (present perfect). I have since used several of the games. They are fun, creative, and really help liven the classroom. I highly recommend this book for any ESL teacher. I think most of the games can be modified to fit any level and age group. I only wish Cambridge made more of its handbooks for teachers available for Kindle. I don't have space to keep hard copies of books.
