Doll has strange accent,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Anna Speaks Russian Doll (Toy)
My mother and I bought this doll for my little sister so she could have a toy that actually talks to her in our language: Russian. Although I know the doll is fun because it has a theme the speaker in the doll has a strange accent when she speaks Russian. She doesn't sound like a native speaker to me but her English is pretty good. My sister liked the doll but I think it was mainly because of the doll's funny voice than it was the fact that it spoke Russian. The doll did come with a translation booklet with a code that gives you access to the games on the languagelittles website but the Russian in the translation book is not even written with the Russian alphabet which makes it easier for non Russians to read but is not always spelled the way it is pronounced this way. This doll is good for entertaining children but not so good for teaching Russian and if you want your child to speak Russian authentically and without an accent or if you are a native speaker like my parents and I you will probably not be very impressed with this product. I wish they had more Russian language programs for children out there but they don't. There is one called Bilingual Baby Russian that we might try but other than that I don't see any.

Disappointed,
This review is from: Anna Speaks Russian Doll (Toy)
I bought this doll for my daughters, who were adopted from Russia as babies. I wanted them to learn a few words in their native language, which I don't speak. I was hoping the doll would teach them some very basic Russian words/phrases (please, thank you, hello, etc). Anna speaks way too quickly and her voice is garbled, so you are unsure of the exact pronunciation. My children did not learn from her and were not interested in her as a toy either.

It's a nice doll, if your children like dolls. The Russian is likely spoken by a child that grew up in the US but speaks Russian because the diction isn't pure. If you speak a little Russian, it's very understandable. If you or child don't speak any, it's not going to be easy to learn, plus there aren't too many phrases. It's a nice toy for children of immigrants because it offers a toy that speaks the native tongue rather than only English speaking toys. We bought a Chibyrashka toy in Russia that has an authentic accent and says colors, numbers, the alphabet and short Russian children's songs and poems. Not sure if it's possible to find online.

I purchased this as a gift for my girlfriends daughter. They adopted their daughter from Russia and want her to retain her native language while learning English. Theis doll was the perfect gift. She loves dolls and this one speaks clearly and I couldn't stop myself from playing with it in the box before I gave it to her. Great learning tool-kids always learn better when they don't realize that they are learning.

I love this doll and so does my daughters. The quality is really nice and the doll is soft and she speaks loud and clear. She speaks in Russian and then says the words in English. Our Sitter is Russian so my daughters learn from her and from their doll. Great product.
