Book Description

October 13, 2009

An in depth study of the vital principles from The Language of Love and Respect now in workbook form.

Communication between couples has been dissected in thousands of books and articles, so why does it remain the number one marriage problem? "Because," says Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, "most spouses don't know that they speak two different languages. They are sending each other messages in 'code,' but they won't crack that code until they see that she listens to hear the language of love and he listens to hear the language of respect." Dr. Eggerichs' best-selling book, Love and Respect, launched a revolution in how couples relate to each other. Now with The Language of Love and Respect companion workbook, the message of this hardcover tradebook can be studied and applied whether for a group or for individual couples. The result will be better communication, mutual understanding, and a successful godly marriage.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Review of The Language of Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs., November 28, 2009
This review is from: The Language of Love and Respect Workbook: Cracking the Communication Code with Your Mate (Paperback)
In this book you will learn how to communicate with your spouse on a whole new level.

Being married is never easy, and one of the things that make it so hard is communication, or lack of communication for many. I know that Mr. B and I have some struggle in that area. That was one reason I was happy to review this book.

This book is written to help couples understand that men and woman communicate differently. Where men see and hear in blue, woman see and hear in pink. Meaning men need respect and woman need love. It's not that either partner is wrong, it's just that we are different so some adjusting needs to happen.

Dr. Eggerichs also gives each spouse an acronym to help understand and remember his concepts. For example for husbands it is COUPLE: Closeness, Openness, Understanding, Peacemaking, Loyalty, Esteem. By using these terms and their meanings it helps husbands to be better partners to their wives.

It has a much more spiritual approach to communication between couples. Showing us that God has a plan and a way that he wants all of us to communicate with one another through scripture.

I enjoyed reading this book, although it was hard to get started as I am not a "self help" book type of person. It does also have some repetitiveness, but I guess it helps the point stick. But I am glad I read it and hope to get Mr. B to read it soon. As I'm sure if we both were to use these techniques we would be communicating gurus.

I, of course, would love to pass this book on to a reader, as you know I'm all about giving. So if you would like to win this copy of this book just leave me a comment, any ol' comment and I'll pick a winner in a few days.

The Language of Love & Respect; Cracking The Communication Code With You Mate by Dr. Emerson Eggerich

In this follow up book to Dr. Eggerich's popular relationship book, "Love & Respect" you will most certainly gain a better understanding of the mixed messages your spouse sends you through out the day. If you've been married for more than a week, then this book is a must have on your night stand. Every couple is bound to face the communication issue in their marriage and unless you know how to decode what your spouse is telling you, you'll repeatedly make the same mistakes and be left to wonder why nothing changes.

In "Cracking the Communication Code," Dr. Eggerich explains that women and men communicate in a pink or blue code. Pink or love is how women communicate and blue or respect is how men communicate. Women want love and to feel loved while men want respect and to feel respected. Somehow we end up giving what we want to our mate and before we know we are on what Dr. Eggerich calls the "crazy cycle"

In this book you'll learn through many practical examples how to jump off the crazy cycle an on to the rewarding cycle, and how to decode what your mate is trying to tell you.

I found the information throughout the book to help personally in my own marriage, and I now know when I'm communicating respect and how to run from the crazy cycle when it's coming my way. The only negative thing I can say is that the author could have used a few less examples to convey the point. However, for some of us it takes lots of repetition for us to finally learn the lesson.

I chose this book as one to review for Thomas Nelson Publishing, and if you are struggling in your relationship with your spouse and can't seem to get a breakthrough, then this is the book for you. It's like counseling only cheaper:) Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Paige
