There is no better text for Medical Terminology,
By Laurie Shanderson (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Language of Medicine, 9e (Paperback)
I have used this text (or an earlier version) for my students consistently. At times I had to use other texts and there quite frankly is no other text that can compare with the level of detail provided in this text. It is extremely student friendly, with excellent diagrams and labeling exercises and it is certainly instructor friendsly with the exercises and body system descriptions. The text provides a consistent comprehensive platform for the successful facilitation of learning the material and I strongly recommend this if you care about your students and the quality of their learning experience. Kudos to the author. I've used the text(s) since 2000. Additionally, the instructors manual and disc just push this over the top relative to excellence.

Out of several textbooks purchased this semester, this is the only one I've felt was well worth what I paid for it. I was awestruck with the speed at which I received this item! With 3 exams in the same week, I ran a bit short on reading time and the CD included with the book helped me ace my first exam! I wish my other textbooks were as clear and concise as this book.

I find the book easy to follow, and the exercises and diagrams help reinforce the chapter lessons. I wasn't able to load the companion CD (not a problem with the CD, but with my specific hardware), but I was able to register for and use the online companion, and am really impressed with the content there, such as the solutions to book questions, quizzes, coloring books, and additional review questions. I am able to keep moving forward in my class. Overall, very well done.

I love this book. Everything you need to know about the fundamentals of the human body and the language used in the medical field is in this book. This seller also had the lowest price around. Love the book!

This text is written in easily read form. Because of the nature of the material, it forces you to use words and their parts over and over incontext. By filling out all of the areas available as instructed, it makes memorization virtually needless. You really learn the material.

I ordered this newly-released 9th edition for my wife, who is currently training as a medical assistant. She has found the book to be quite useful in preparing for her exams, and in fact has on more than one occassion helped the instructors correct their handouts by referencing this book prior to passing them out to the students.

I have been very successful with this book in class. It is very concise and the exercises are extremely helpful. I thought I would have greater difficulty in this class but the book has been very clear and very well put together. My professor went on vacation to Alaska and we never missed a beat!

This is a good textbook for those who do not know much about medicine as is. They oversimplified the definitions of some diseases, but overall it is a good textbook.
