Excellent Book - Recommend!,
By
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
I was required to purchase this book and learn it for my Physician Assistant Masters Program and I love it...
It has detailed explanations of words and examples- plenty of pictures to match and many many exercises for practice. One of the Cds is a practice CD with entertaining games which make studying terminology fun as well as informative. I definitely think this is an excellent buy if you want to learn medical terminology with speed and ease. At the end of each chapter is a pronunciation guide (as well as a separate accompaning CD) which i find extremely useful. It is well organized and contains some physiology as well which just gets me even more prepared for the classes to come. Easy to use and understan even if you have never learned anatomy or physiology.

The Gold Standard,
By
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
This is the best medical terminology text available. I have the seventh edition, which was the required text for a college medical terminology class that I took. I only wish Ms. Chabner would have written the text for the A&P class taken concurrently with the terminology class! Her writing is clear and informative. The book is laid out in a way that makes learning accessible and enjoyable. I have looked at quite a few medical terminology text books and have yet to find one that compares to The Language of Medicine. I can't say enough good things about this book!

Medical Book,
By
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
I purchased Language of Medicine. This book is great for those entering the Medical field. The pictures included are high in detail and very explanatory. Also included is a CD with more information and Medical games. The price was right as well. I've spoken to other students in my class who purchased this same book from the school's bookstore. Their complaint was that they paid $25.00 more than what I paid. I'd recommend this book to anyone studying medicine.

The Language of Medicene,
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
This is the best studying book I have ever used. I am the type of person that wants to see what, a lesson is talking about. The drawings and illustrations are wonderful. Not only can you write in this book, it also has tapes to help you learn.I have learned more from this one book, it helps me understand and be able to recall what I have read.Wow I never knew there was so much going on in our body's, or how each system worked. I would recommend this book to every one, the terminology lessons make breaking down medical terms real easy, I like the way it goes into great detail explaining diseases, radiology , oncology ,and how our organs work.

Not amused,
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
Incredibly -- for a book and CD that costs $70 -- be warned that the CD may not work in your computer. It is for 32 bit operating systems, and most computers run 64 bit. She even has the nerve to include a notice that if you open the software, you can't return the book, but the card that informs you it will only run on 32 bit is INSIDE the CD package.
It is unprofessional and unethical to charge this much for an outdated product that many people won't even be able to use.

useful book over all,
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
i was asked to purchase this book for a class, and am impressed with the quality of the exercises contained within it. the only issue i have is that a few random combining forms or prefixes and suffixes having no definition to be found in the book at all... i've had to use the internet to look up what some of them mean. the enclosed cd-rom is also a great tool.

Great Medical Terminology Review,
By
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
I purchased this book to review some Medical Terminology prior to the start of my PA program. This book has plenty of exercises to practice, and the chapters cover a lot of different subjects with useful information you may or may not already know. A CD comes with the book that has exercises similar to those in the text, but less repetitive. Even though I already know a lot of this from my prior education, it is a great review or intro for those that are new to the subject. I highly recommend this book to any Pre-PA students, pre-med, or pre-health students.

"the language of medicene" is a very well written text with great pictures. illustrations are shown in extreme clarity with very well written explenations- no guess work as to exactly what you are looking at and nothing shown that you don't need. everything is explained in highly understandable terms. you don't really need an expanded knowledge in anatomy and physiology to understand this text. i believe that anyone with a general high school biology knowledge would do just fine. everything is explained clearly in laymans terms. i have had a few texts similar to this in the past and this one by far was much easier to understand. i highly suggest this text over many other terminology books. if you can get a copy that comes with a cd it is actually pretty cool. spelling bee vocabulary and terminology, graphical matching and terminology matching are just a few examples of studying guides that the cd has to offer. there are games like "million dollar pyramid", "wheel of terminology" and more in the "arcade" section. there really are more study aids on the cd than i can mention. if you get a copy definatly don't pass up the cd!

Great Text -- Horrible CD-ROM,
By
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
I actually have recently purchased this textbook/ CD-ROM combo from my college bookstore for a class I am taking and I find the book to be fantastic. It is just as all these many, many others have reported it to be: A SOLID 5-STARS! However, I could not possibly be more disappointed with the CD. All the PCs, laptops, a tablet pc, and even one iMac where I am far, far exceed the minimum system requirements to run this software, but it is nowhere near being in the same league as the textbook/ workbook it supposedly supplements. It is so poorly constructed that some of (many of) the features are practically incomprehensible. My very American, English-speaking, raised on computers, extremely pc-literate (but not always the most politically correct or polite!) son took one look at the page on my screen and said, "It looks like some Russian-speaking translator threw some stuff together at the last minute and ripped all of you off." My college-loving son is currently working toward his third degree at the same school I am attending and has quite a bit of experience with textbooks which include a CD that is supposed to make the set worth twice the price of the book alone (but the book is never available for purchase new without the CD.)
Buy this great book, even if you are stuck paying a lot for the inclusion of its accompanying CD-ROM. The book is awesome & I hope as my course goes forward, I will continue to be so impressed and will easily learn everything it has to offer. I am enjoying spending time in these beautiful pages so much in fact, that I would not even mind too terribly if it did not come so clearly & easily. This edition is, after all, Ms. Chabner's eighth go at it. She obviously knows her stuff and knows how to give it to her readers in meaningful, thought provoking, and permanent ways. It is obvious with this kind of quality what our author has been concentrating on -- and it has not been on computer programming. We should all be very grateful her tremendous talents are displayed in this book The Language of Medicine. Anyway, I bet every single computer user out there, if honest, would have to admit it would not be the first time they have been burned from purchasing lousy software. (And I am talking about the kind of software you buy because you want to own that software, not just because it was bundled with something else that you were really buying.) Before I go, I do have to tell you that there are several sources of free Tech Support included with the CD-ROM installation instructions. I am sure this is a good thing. At the very least, it indicates responsibility, pride, and concern on the part of the software producers. From my own experiences with similarly behaving computer programs though, I do not hold out any real hope of achieving excellence in the performance of this software. It just has too many problems to expect a phone call, an email, or a FAQ page to completely start over at the beginning and create a well-written program that accomplishes all the functions this CD-ROM claims to do.

A Must For People Who Struggle With Learning,
This review is from: The Language of Medicine (Paperback)
I purchased this book hoping this one would be different from the rest. It sure was! I struggle with learning things and also with finishing what I start.I have a learning disability and ADHD. This book is colorful, simple, and points out key points. The CD that came with it blew me away! It has a review with each lesson you learn. From spelling the terms, to putting the words together, prefixes, subfixes, etc. It also has pictures on the CD. and games like medical mix, and wheel of terminology which makes it fun to learn and helps you to improve in your weaker areas. This book is everything I hoped for and more. I've been looking for something like this for a long time. It's like a dream come true! If you are like me and learning and keeping to something is a struggle for you, then this book is for you. Give it a try. You won't be sorry. Thank you Davi-Ellen Chabner for putting this book out. You have given me hope that I can learn and succeed I haven't felt this way in so long. It makes me believe in myself.
