Editorial Reviews

A classic, this album will astound you! The wolf howl is a long, low, mournful sound. It is continuous, from about half a second to 11 seconds in length. It consists of a fundamental frequency, between 150 and 780 cycles per second, and contains up to 12 harmonically related overtones. There is much variation in wolf howls. Side One contains a Robert Redford narration: "The Wolf You Never Knew". Side 2 has 11 tracks of various wolf howls, recorded live in Ontario, Michigan, and Minnesota: Opening Howl, First Growls of Wolf Pups Inside the Den, Pup Howls contrasted with Adult, Barking, Series of 3 Wolf Howls (different wolves), Comparative Difference in Howls, Single Howls Joined to Give Illusion of Pack Howl, Combined Sounds of the Wolf, Distand and Close-Up Howling Ending in Group Howl, Series of Group Howls (one of the most dramatic sounds in all of nature), and Joint Group Howl.

5.0 out of 5 stars definitely a 'HOWL', October 18, 2008
This review is from: The Language and Music of the Wolves - Robert Redford 1971 (Vinyl)
this was one of my favorite albums when I was younger. For Halloween, it certainly served a purpose as 'background' music! Scared several youngsters when they came around! Too bad it is not on cd, yet.....

5.0 out of 5 stars A very amazing replacement!, December 19, 2010
This review is from: The Language and Music of the Wolves - Robert Redford 1971 (Vinyl)
This album was one of my favorites when I was young. I listened to it over and over on the giant phono/tv set in my room.
I have been playing it for my three year old child and she says it is one of her favorites too.
Recently while repairing the tattered sleeve of my original record I drop the vinyl out and it chipped!!
This replacement is in mint condition if you ask me. Very good merchant here.

MG, i CAN'T BELIEVE that anybody else on this planet had this in their house when they were little!! Except we didn't listen to it to be scared!! My dad used to play it because it was so beautiful! He had a Whale album too he used to love! He would play it at parties my parents would have though... i think his friends just loved my dad's creativity! they'd all visit for hours!! i ACTUALLY JUST located where i put this old LP that i found in my parents home a few years ago. I just found it a few hours ago when the maids came in the clean since my papa just passed away last week. i just wasn't up for doing all the cleaning... I found the LP hidden behind my old dresser. I guess I wanted to make sure I could find it again! Anyhoo, came on Amazon thinking i just MITE find the CD or download... Dreaming... but, oh, well, found you all's beautiful posts!! How fun!! Now i just need to put it on CD from the LP! We have the tech to do it -- just gotta make the effort to hook it up and learn how to do it... Cheers to you!!
