This is a fantastic new band and this CD is my favorite of the year so far. I heard Cardiac Arrest on the radio and immediately looked these guys up. Their sound is sort of a blend between The Bravery and Vampire Weekend. They have nice beat and the singer's voice can have some real punch when he wants it to. Language and Perspective is phenomenal and I highly recommend it. The gems of the CD, for me, are:

Cardiac Arrest: The song is so catchy and something everyone can relate to. "I'll try my best, how much do I invest?"

Dancing in Quicksand: A very fluid song, just like dancing in quicksand. Something you can just bob along with and feel.

Take My Love and Run: Provides a more methodic pace and good progression from verse to chorus. On the bridge, goes with a nice blend of harder drums and very melodic instrumentals and vocals.

The only reason this is 3 stars instead of 5 is because this albums has been censored, even though it clearly has the word explicit in the description. This is not the fault of the artist, I’m sure, because I’ve seen recorded live performances of the song and there are curse words in the song. If you’re going to censor the album you should tell people that and sell 2 different versions. I want the music the way the artist intended it to be, that’s why I bought the explicit version.

That being said I love the Bad Suns and all of their music, can’t wait to see them live in Tucson when they come through in July.

I was introduced to "Bad Suns" when "Cardiac Arrest" was the single of the week on iTunes. It was an immediate favorite. Then the EP came out - and that was great! Now the full length CD is here and I wasted no time placing my pre-order for the disc.

It arrived promptly and it's great after one listen. Every song is catchy. Each one is more catchy than the next. This isn't the album that gets five stars because of depth of lyrics, or some other deep reason. It gets five stars because it's summer and this will be the soundtrack. Seriously - it's great fun, catchy, awesome. If you like the song "Cardiac Arrest", you'll like the entire rest of this CD.

The quality of the recording is also better than most in this genre. Most modern recordings totally botch the drums and percussion - this recording does commit some sins but at least the drums have *most of* the proper scale and better "placement" than many typical recordings these days. It's also not as compressed as many recordings - some dynamic range is still present. Happy listening!

Language and Perspective is an amazing album. My favorite thing about this album is how as a whole it is perfectly cohesive, and yet each song is unique and special on its own. Each song is catchy and has an amazing hook. The whole album has an incredible flow.

Song by Song:
Matthew James - A great opener for the album. I love the rhythm and the delivery of the lines. VERY catchy chorus. This song is stuck in my head all the time. 9/10
We Move Like The Ocean - One of my favorites. The instruments and vocals are both smooth and blend together perfectly. 10/10
Cardiac Arrest - This is the song that introduced me to the band. The vocals are stellar. It is a bit repetitive. 8/10
Pretend - This song is yet another catchy and amazing song. At this point of the album I was surprised that there wasn't any "filler" yet. It turns out there is none. 8/10
Take My Love And Run - The vocals of this one are very diverse, and it gives it a nice diversity from some of the others. A simple but great song. 8/10
Dancing On Quicksand - This is the only song on the album (I think) that has any profanity. My cd was not the censored version and I love this song. It has the best flow of any of the songs. It's lyrics are also very relatable. 10/10
Salt - My personal favorite. The percussion sounds amazing and makes the song very upbeat. I love the high notes in the bridge and the overall energy of this song. 11/10
Transpose - This was the title track of the EP that preceded this album. This song has an amazing hook and it is one of the best beats on the album. 9/10
Learnt to Trust - This song is pretty laid back, which is a nice change of pace. It chills me out. 8/10
Sleep Paralysis - This one has really cool vocals, and it is another solid track.

I was looking forward to this. Included are three songs from their "Transpose EP". The music is energetic and solid, with thought provoking lyrics. The album lives up to the promise of the EP. It's great to listen to all the way through.
Favorites include: " Matthew James ", "We Move Like the Ocean", " Cardiac Arrest", "Take My Love And Run", "Salt", "Transpose", and "Learn To Trust".

8/3/14: Amazon's mp3 version of this album has been pulled because one of the tracks was an edited/censored version. It's unfortunate that they couldn't just relabel this as a 'clean' version rather than pull the whole album.
The complaint about the censoring is valid because the edited track (Dancing On Quicksand) has blank spaces that interfere with the flow of the song. Hopefully, Amazon will soon provide the unedited version which is available from other stores.

To be fair to Amazon, customer service issued a refund since the album was materially different than advertised. I would have preferred a replacement unedited version of the one song, and would have accepted a refund for just the edited track, but they said those options weren't possible. I hope this doesn't hurt the band...
