A girl and her cactus,
By KSL "emma-and-me" (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lan's Plant (Reader's Clubhouse: Level 1) (Paperback)
Lan goes to the store and picks a prickly pear cactus plant out for her very own plant. She takes good care of her plant and it grows and grows. One day it even grows a small red flower. She brings her plant to a garden show and wins a 1st place blue ribbon.
This book helps your child focus on short A and short E vowel sounds. On the very last page there is a word list of Short-A and Short-E words and high frequency; we call them sight or power, words found in this story. I love that the book also includes fun facts about the cactus plants. Did you know that cows also love to eat prickly pears once the farmer removes the spines from the pads? There is a diagram of a prickly pear plant and also a cute prickly cactus plant art project using brown, green clay, a small paper cup and tooth picks. ( I'd make sure if you have smaller children around that you keep this art project up and way from them. You could even cut the sharp ends of each tooth pick, but I'd keep it out of reach.) |
