I have to admit that these pads are the best, absorption wise. I never had a problem with leaking, not even once! However, I started finding small beads on my skin after removing the pads to feed my baby. These beads are probably from the polymer in the core of the pads which makes them so super absorbent in the first place. They are most likely the same beads you would find on baby's bottom that come from the same or similar polymer in baby diapers.

The beads are most likely harmless on baby's bottom, but I really can't say the same if baby eats some of them. I tried to remove the beads, but they're so tiny, and they tend to stick to the lanolin which almost every breastfeeding mom must be using for nipple care.

So, I stopped using them. I am now using the Phillips Avent nursing pads which are admittedly bulkier and not as leak proof, but at least I know my baby isn't eating polymer beads either. I don't know if the manufacturer knows if there's any problems with these beads being eaten, but I suspect something along the lines of "there have never been any reports of adverse effects associated with ingestion of these beads." Uh. Okay. I'd rather not take the chance, thank you. I can handle a couple of leaks.

If you decide to go ahead and use them, make sure you change them as often as possible to minimize the polymer bead problem.

These nursing pads are the most expensive I have seen, but they are worth the money if you leak excessively. They are amazingly absorbent.[...]. But if you don't leak much, you may prefer a smaller, more discreet pad.

As for the polymer beads being left on your skin (as the other review indicated), I suspect this is because she is not changing them often enough. I haven't had that problem at all. As soon as I notice they are at all wet, I change them. That isn't to say I haven't slept with them and woken up with them completely saturated - still haven't seen that problem. Maybe it's the lanolin, which I don't use now that my baby has a good latch. Anyway, the beads are a pain if you accidentally rip the pad, which I've done once. It's like sand everywhere. You have to be kind of careless to rip them, but as new moms know, sometimes you are rushed and holding your little one at the same time you are changing your nursing pads.

These pads cover a larger surface area than others I've tried. However, they adhere to your bra rather than form to your breasts. This has only been a problem for me at night when I shift and the pads don't shift with me. They are large enough that it is usually okay, but not always.

They also keep my skin drier than others, which is necessary for breast health, but you still need to change them once they are wet.

Overall
Pros: Absorbent, keeps skin dry (and aren't those the two reasons you use nursing pads in the first place - hence the five stars)

Cons: Expensive, excessive packaging, a little bulky

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite disposable nursing pads, January 10, 2009

I love my Lansinoh nursing pads and don't know what I'd do without them! They're especially great for the newborn stage, when your supply isn't quite regulated and some moms leak quite heavily.

The slight curve to the pad helps them fit properly in your bra without bunching up (like some of the flat pads do), and the gel is super-absorbent. I don't think I've ever actually leaked while wearing these (and for me, that's saying something!). The pads are also quite thin, and I don't have issues with them showing through my shirt.

The individual wrappers are a bit of a pain, and seem rather wasteful (I hate excessive packaging!), but I suppose if you're putting some of these in your purse or diaper bag, it comes in handy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST, August 13, 2010
This review is from: Lansinoh 20265 Disposable Nursing Pads, 60-Count Boxes (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
I used these for almost a year when I nursed my baby. I had constant leaks and, like other women featured on the side boxes of Lansinoh nursing pads, tried a lot of different brands, like Avent or Gerber, even cloth ones. Only Lansinoh was 1) discrete enough so I did not have to hide under a bulky sweater (these pads are VERY thin) and 2) really, really absorbent. I had a LOT of leaks in the first weeks after my baby was born and there was no way i could have gone anywhere without the Lansinoh pads. They are expensive, but totally worth the price. I would think of the money I would spend if I had given my baby formula then. By the way, I never found any polymer beads on my skin and Amazon is offering these at a good price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good disposable pads, March 25, 2010
This review is from: Lansinoh 20265 Disposable Nursing Pads, 60-Count Boxes (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
Relatively good disposable pads, but with cons.
Pros:
*No leaking
*Thin but absorbent
Cons:
*Lots of packaging and they're disposable= creates waste
Each is individually wrapped with plastic (the kind that sticks to your hand and won't get off), not to mention the pads you're throwing away every day.
*Adhesive doesn't always make pad stay in place
*Expensive

So I switched over to reusable cotton pads-- Milk Diapers-- and I am really happy I did. You help the environment, save money, and stay dry.

These have worked perfectly for me since my daughter was born and I began nursing her. They can hold a LOT of milk - I've never had a problem with them leaking, even overnight. I wasn't sure how long I would need them, but my daughter is 3.5 months and I still wear them all the time (even though engorgement is no longer a problem, I still leak sometimes). They will not show through a padded bra or a bra with cups - most nursing bras seem to be decently padded, and they have never shown through my clothes in a way that bothers me. Just be aware that they would not be invisible under *anything*.

They are absorbent but look bulky. You can tell you have them on if you are wearing a unpadded bra. Keep that in mind.

I just had my 4th child. I tried every pad on the market previously. I swore by Lansinoh & recommended them to everyone. There just wasn't a better pad on the market. Unfortunately in the past few years since my previous child was born the quality has declined considerably.

The pads are now quite "crinkly & wrinkly". They used to maintain their shape no matter how bunched up they'd get during a feeding. (note: they only get scrunched up while feeding, they maintain shape fine during wear. I suppose I could take them out & lay them neatly to the side but that kind of takes away from the "discreetness" factor lol) Sadly I spend more time flattening & unfolding the darn things then I do burping & snapping my bra back up. Also a few nights where I ended up leaking quite a bit, all the absorbent material had bunched up to one side. That NEVER happened with their previous versions. I also notice the pad cover sticks to my nipples sometimes, something else that just NEVER happened before. You would think after all these years someone would have created the perfect pad! Be careful when opening the pads, on more than one occasion the pads ripped along with the plastic cover. I have yet to see the absorbent beads other reviews mentioned however.

Aside from the aforementioned cons this pad still has some pros. Although it does occasionally stick to you, at least it doesn't leave fibers ALL over your nipple like the Johnson & Johnson pads do. Did they even test theirs I wonder? I have yet to have one of these Lansinoh pads allow a leak, which is after all the main objective here. I CANNOT say that about any other pad.

Overall I'd say Lansinoh still has the best pad out there, but instead of improving upon a good thing they have left a lot of room for improvement.

The 3 pack is the cheapest deal around I believe!

4.0 out of 5 stars the best out there, July 21, 2009

This review is from: Lansinoh 20265 Disposable Nursing Pads, 60-Count Boxes (Pack of 3) (Health and Beauty)
I bought these based on their reviews and the fact that I'd been leaking wih every pad I tried. These are a great size. Thin but large in diameter, nice and discreet. I leak A LOT and normally change my pads 3 times a day, but these are great. I've only leaked once with them, but i think I had the too far up not centrally over my nipple, so i think it was my fault as opposed to the product. I accidentally wore them to the pool and boy do they absorb a lot.

Anyway - highly recommended, a little expensive, but 2 pads a day V 6 of another brand works are cheaper in the long run!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Like wearing a diaper in your bra, July 12, 2009

I see that everyone loves these- but not me. These things are so crinkly, I feel like I am wearing a diaper in my bra. They may be absorbant- but they are certainly not form fitting or discreet. And for those of us on the smaller side, a little extra padding would be nice anyway. I bought these though- and now seem to have a lifetime supply that I can't return even though the other two boxes aren't open.
