Great pump ... especially for the price,

It is so difficult to shop for a breast pump. If you buy one, you are stuck with it. You can't return pumps ... not even to Target or Walmart. So, hopefully, this will be a helpful review.
I researched quite a bit before choosing this pump. For my needs, it works great. It is very quiet and very efficient. There are only a few parts, so cleaning and assembly is very easy. It is very simple - one dial for suction and one dial for speed. I have been using it semi-daily for a month now and have not had any difficulties. It works on A/C adapter or on batteries. I am not a full-time pumper; I just use it once or twice a day to increase production and have a little milk stored for emergency or super-hungry-baby days. It is quiet enough that I can pump on one side while nursing the baby on the other. I love that you don't need to clean the tubing ... all parts that come in contact with the milk are easily cleaned/sanitized. Also, Avent makes a conversion kit (available on Amazon and at Babies R Us for about $10) so that you can pump directly into Avent bottles rather than transferring the milk into bags, etc. Works GREAT! If you are totally new to pumps, here's my advice: skip the manual or single pumps. I had the Isis manual pump for my first baby and that was a complete waste of money. I would sit and pump for 20-30 minutes and could barely get two ounces. Electric pumps are so much more efficient. Spend the extra money and get a good pump. It helps increase your milk production and can help with sore nipples.

I researched pumps for months before I decided on this one. This is the same exact pump as the ameda purely yours except that it is marketed under lansinoh and is purple (I even contacted lansinoh to verify this). The pump works great and is super easy to clean. The main reason why I decided on this pump was that it (and the ameda) are the only ones that are FDA approved b/c the milk never comes in contact with the tubing or the motor (as opposed to the medela pumps). The one drawback is that you will have to buy your own carrying case and cooler bag, but for the price, its worth the small expense those will cost you.

Efficient, economical pump!,
By Christina Kay (Florida) - See all my reviews One thing that I love about this pump is that the design makes it easy to clean and maintain. Milk cannot back up into the tubing, which is a big plus. One minor downside: there are a couple of smallish parts in the assembly (namely the silicone diaphragms that fit in the top of the two flanges) which I could see getting dropped or lost pretty easily at some point in the future. Spare parts are not as readily available in a retail store as the Pump in Style parts, but can be ordered off the manufacturer's website. I also appreciate that this pump is compact, making it fairly portable. It does not come with any kind of case or bag, but I was fine with it since I found a lot of the breast pump bags overly bulky (not to mention they just kind of looked like breast pump bags...) It has the options of plugging into the wall or using 8 AAA batteries if you are on the go. The pump is very easy to use. I agree with reviewer that the suction is not as strong as it could be. The Medela suction is probably a bit better. However, the performance of the two pumps is comparable: I can still express the same amount of milk in the same amount of time as with the Medela Pump in Style. I get more than enough to give my son all breastmilk every day. I would highly recommend this pump to any new mother who would like to pump regularly (even exclusively) but does not necessarily want to pay the Medela price tag.

Excellent pump at a great price,
This review is from: Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump (Health and Beauty)
I bought this pump a little over a year ago after researching the many options on the market. I work full time and a good pump was an absolute must for me.
The Lansinoh pump really stood up to the test. I have just recently weaned my 1 year old daughter, and I was able to pump enough milk for her for the entire year while working. The pump worked as good on my last session as it did on my first session. It was incredibly easy to use, and VERY easy to clean which is a must if you are pumping at work. I loved that no milk or condesation could develop in the tubes, as can be a problem with other brands of pumps. It was easy to assemble quickly during my short pumping breaks at work, and I loved that it was so light to carry back and forth each day. The only downsides are that replacement parts aren't easily found in stores, but it comes with several extra valves plus I just ordered some online as needed...I would replace them every month or so to keep the suction at its strongest. Also it doesn't come with a bag or cooler, but the hospital 'freebie' diaper bag worked great at first, and later I bought a cute tote bag at Target along with a small lunchbox/cooler to carry the milk in...worked fine and didn't look like a 'breastpump bag' like so many do. Overall, I'd highly recommend this pump to anyone, especially those working outside the home who have to pump frequently.

***Editing this now to note that the review was for the original Lansinoh, NOT the Affinity, which I have not used, and which was either not available, or not commonly available in 2008. It looks like the listing was changed to point to a different product.***
Most of it's been said already, so I'll try to keep this fairly brief. This is the same as the Ameda Purely Yours, so make sure to check reviews on it as well. I use this pump about three times a day in an effort to build up a frozen milk stash before returning to work. While the power adapter is large and heavy, the pump and horns are surprisingly light and small. The whole thing fits nicely in the diaper bag we were given in the hospital, with room to spare. The parts that come into contact with milk (horns, rubber valves, silicone membranes) wash up easily with a bottle brush and unscented dish soap, and fit on any standard sized bottle you'd like to use. I figure that the milk's in the horns only briefly, so BPA contact is minimal, and using third-party bottles lets you avoid contact there. It's no louder than the Medela swing, which I started with, but it's a double pump, and the horns feel comfier to me. Just a few hints I haven't seen yet: -If you cut slits down the front of a sturdy bra, you can insert the horns, and pump hands-free. If said bra has a lace or fabric overlay, push that back rather than cutting through it, and use it to cover the slits when wearing the bra normally. There are instructions online on using hair elastics to suspend pumps from a nursing bra, also. -Alternating between high speed/low suction, and low speed/high suction got the most milk for me. Just switch when it stops flowing. It's more comfortable than consistent high speed and/or suction, too. I love that the pump has separate controls which makes this possible. -The sample Lansinoh milk bags that came with this pump fit in Playtex drop-in bottles. Didn't see that noted on the package, but it's good to know. -If you pump as much as you can, and then feed your baby, he or she will still get enough to eat. The best pump is no match for an infant, who will be able to get milk the pump couldn't, so if you're trying to increase your supply, this may help.

Best price, great pump!,

I have never written a review on an item before, but I really felt this product warranted one! I bought this pump when I was still pregnant with my 2nd child. I had used the Avent manual pump with my 1st, and I was so disappointed. I ended up giving up on it very shortly after my daughter was born, and I knew this time around I wanted an electric one. Only thing was, I didn't want to spend $200-$300. So I settled on this.
Well, let me tell you, I hadn't "settled" at all! I can't say enough good things about this breast pump. Some pros: 1. This pump gives you the option of using one flange or two. Most often I only do one at a time, but it's nice to know you can do either way. 2. It offers different cycles (speed of "sucking") and vacuum strength (how hard it's "sucking"). To me, this is a wonderful feature because you can find a setting you're comfortable with. 3. You can switch the power source from DC plug to batteries. This is great if you plan on travelling. 4. The price can't be beat. You get much more than you pay for - I would consider this pump right up there with the best of the best Medela's - which easily cost you $100 more. And the going rate to rent a pump around here is $35 a month, so if you plan to pump for more than 4 months, it's worth it to just buy this one! With a Medela, you'd have to pump for 8 months or more to make it more economical to buy rather than rent. 5. The Lansinoh brand really is good. They make, in my opinion, one of the best nipple creams around. It is also fairly easy to find replacement parts and accessories in stores (I've seen them at Walmart and Babies-R-Us). It is also pretty easy to wash, as the apparatus for each breast is made of only 4 pieces (not including the tubing). 6. This set comes with extra pieces, bottles with caps, and a few sample freezer bags. Only a couple of cons (but not enough to make it a bad review in any way): 1. It doesn't come with any sort of travel bag. But everything you'd need to bring with you would fit in an extra purse, or even your diaper bag, so I don't really see the need. 2. It is a bit awkward to pump both breasts at the same time. It is uncomfortable to hold them as directed with one arm and hand. I feel like I lose suction on the breast nearest my elbow. I don't know if this is all double pumps - this is my 1st experience with one - but it really leaves you with no hands free. And for a mom with an infant, that doesn't really work out! All in all - I would recommend this breast pump 100%. You get so much for an amazing price.

Go for the Medela Instead,
By Rick/Elise "hoboken mom" (Hoboken, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lansinoh Affinity Double Electric Breast Pump (Health and Beauty)
I originally bought a pump from Amazon.com in December of 2008. Since I'm a stay at home mom, I didn't require the use of my pump on a daily basis but used it successfully (approximately three or four times a week) for about 5 months. That's about the best thing I can say for this product. Towards the middle of the fifth month, I found that the suction no longer worked sufficiently on my pump. I called Amazon and they referred me to the Lansinoh headquarters in Virginia. When I spoke with the Lansinoh representative, I was told that if the pump made a round mark on my finger when pumping then it was not a problem with the suction of the pump but an issue with the hoses and exterior pieces. I waited about 5 days to receive the exterior pieces only to find that the pump STILL did not function properly even with all exterior parts replaced. I called a SECOND time and was informed that I could have a new pump but would have to ship my broken pump in first. I shipped my pump that day and received a replacement pump approximately 10 days later. The replacement pump worked two times and then it ALSO FAILED to work. By this time, I was on a trip and separated from my baby so I was forced to go out and purchase a completely new pump from Wal-Mart. I did not even open the exterior parts from their individual packaging and only used the brand new pump portion. (This clearly indicates that the replacement pump they sent me was defective). Now, I am being told that Lansinoh will not reimburse me for the second pump that I had to buy - they will only send me another replacement for the one that isn't working so that I will now have two working pumps. This is not a satisfactory arrangement because if the pumps did not break frequently then there is no reason why a mother should need more than one breast pump.
I am very unhappy with the overall integrity of the machine that does not appear to function well over time. I am angered further by the policy that mothers have to jump through hoops to correct a problem that arises. (For those of you who are nursing, you know that it is extremely difficult for a mother to go without a pump for such a lengthy period. If you're away from your baby for over four or five hours, you have to pump to keep up your milk supply and avoid clogged ducts.) Now I'm out nearly $300 and I have not one, but two pumps that are of highly questionable quality. I should have bucked up the money for a Medela in the first place. I have lots of mom friends who bought the Medela and none of them regret it.

Though I did not see many reviews for this item, I thought of trying it out. I am happy that I bought it, with in 15 minutes you can pump atleast 8 ounces and the best point is it is very light weight. But one thing is single pump is more effective than double pump. I would definitely recommend this. I am giving 4 star because it has a beep sound which cannot be muted and sometimes my baby gets disturbed.

Ao far I have usingthis pump every day for more than 2 months. I pump and bottle feed my 4 month old boy. I find it easy to assemble, easy to clean and get good amount of milk in about 20 min. I am a first time mom and this is the only pump I've used, so don't have any comparison. Good thing about this pump is that it comes with some spare parts. After using for 2 months, 5-6 times a day, the white valve get loose. I just simply replaced it, it works well again. I don't think this one is noisy, obviously every one can tolerant different level of noisy. The noise can't keep my awake at night when I pump and my baby even finds the noise soothing.
Overall I recommend this one. I got it from Target for $150. This one here is a good deal. |
