Lansinoh Breast Milk Storage Bags 50-pk.

I've tried a few other milk storage systems, including the medela bags (which you can pump directly into) and the hard plastic containers (like Avent). This is, by far, the most useful and most economical storage systemm.

Pros:
1. The bags have a double-zip closure. This ensures that the bag seals well and doesn't leak. Also, when you push the air out, a few drops of milk always slip out, but it usually doesn't get past the second zip-closure. The bags are superior to the hard containers because you can squeeze the air out and prevent freezer burn.

2. These lay flat! I put my warm bags of milk into a rectangular Tuppperware container and stack them up on top of one another. Then, I put them into the freezer, and they freeze perfectly flat, which the Medela bags don't do. Once they are frozen into flat blocks, I stack 10 blocks in a one gallon Ziploc freezer bag and label and date the Ziploc bag. This goes into the deep freeze.

3. They are spacious! They recommend that you put 6oz of milk into the bag, but these bags are quite large and will definitely hold more than 6oz. As one reviewer said, they can put up to 12oz into the bag. The reason why the company says 6oz is so the bag can lay flat. Once it fills too much, it won't lay flat as well, but you can save quite a bit of money by overfiling these. The Medela bags are small in comparison, and hold 5oz at the max, and they also do not lay flat.

4. They are economical. These were the most economical bags on the market, too. They fit more milk than any other bag. I use the Amazon "subscribe and save" option for free shipping and save another 15% off the price. I don't know how long that promotion will run. While you can't pump into the bag like you can with the Medela bags, I have found that I run out of space in the Medela bags anyway, since they only hold 5oz, and sometimes I do pump more than 5oz in one session.

5. They are safe for baby. Obviously, they are sterile. They have a tear-off tab at the opening to break the seal. The plastic does not contain any chemical softeners. And, there is a tab of plastic that is away from the milk where you can write your name and date on the bag. This prevents any chemicals from your pen leaching into the milk. This is good for me, since I use a Sharpie pen, and I am sure there are chemicals that could potentially leach through the bag.

6. Easy to defrost and use the milk. When I defrost, I again put the bag into a Tupperware in case of small nicks in the bags or leakage. I have not had a problem with leakage, yet.

Cons:
1. The one major thing that bothered me in the beginning was that the volume measurements on the bag were estimates and not accurate like the hard container storage systems. But, I just use the bottle that I pumped into to measure out my 6oz, and then pour it in. I've also gotten quite good at eyeballing 6oz on the bag.

Not much else to complain about. I've been really happy with these bags, so far.

Initially, I liked the feel and function of these bags best of the brands I have tried, which include Medela and Gerber. After freezing, however, I had the same problem that other reviewers reported with the Lansinoh bags leaking at the bottom seams. I was quite careful to follow instructions about bag capacity and storing flat, and I defrosted gently in warm water, so I believe it to be a defect with the bag, not user error!

I emailed Lansinoh about my experience, and they were very apologetic and provided 100 bags free of charge via priority mail. While I am still a little nervous about using the bags, I now have the option of double bagging, which should help. I rate these bags a 3 because while leaking bags defeat the purpose and are a huge disappointment, it was an intermittent problem and I found the company to be very responsive to my issues with their product. I am hopeful that they will solve the leak problem in future.

I've used these for two babies now and have used the milk after 6mo in deep freeze.

They are great most of the time. I freeze about 10-12oz in each bag (yes, they say no more than 6oz, it's a myth). 12 is the maximum I found tho. The trick is to make sure there is no air. It won't leak b/c the bag will expand, unlike plastic storage containers. I use the straight edge of a table, push the milk all the way to the top and zip it as I push the air out. Don't worry if a little leaks out b/c it has a double zipper. Then I freeze it on a flat surface singly. After it's frozen, I put 8-10 of these in a big gallon zip lock bag and date the outside and put it in deep freezer. It's easier to organize them this way in deep freeze.

The bad thing about these bags is that once frozen, the plastic nicks easily if you drop it, scrape it against something, etc (as with all frozen containers). Lansinoh had really bad problem with leakage before but they've improved. Just thaw the bag in a container in case it leaks. Lansinoh customer service is great and will replace them if you encounter leaky bags.

I'd say about 1/3 of my bags leak. I've lost so much bmilk thawing out the baggies...enough to make any mom cry after all that hard work. I loved the bags going in b/c of the double ziplock on the top. I couldn't be more disappointed with this product now and will never use it again. It doesn't matter if we froze them flat, froze them "fat", froze in clumps with other bags, or froze them individually. Leaks, leaks, leaks. it doesn't matter if I thaw slowly in warm water, in hot water, at room temperature, or thaw in the fridge at it's own pace. Leaks, leaks, leaks. So very disappointing, especially after investing in a deep freezer to hold everything.

They truly leak a little bit and make a mess. not something I recommend for first time breast feeders. I prefered to pump into bottles and pour into ice cube trays. Each cube is an ounce, once frozen store in zip lock freezer bags

I've defrosted about 5-6 Lansinoh bags thus far and 3 of them have leaked. I let the bags defrost in the fridge overnight in a ziplock bag upright in a bowl now. I also started double bagging the milk so we'll see how double bagging works. I also have been using Medela bags and have defrosted about 30 bags with NO LEAKS!! I will spend a little extra to get Medela from now on (although...with my double bagging technique, Lansinoh ends up being more expensive than Medela). Spend the money on Medela fellow breastfeeding moms!!!!

So I'm currently taking care of my 4th kid so I know a few things about freezing milk. We've packed a freezer full of milk for 4 kids now over the past several years.

Problem with these bags - when dunking a bag of frozen breast milk into hot water to thaw it out - the bags rip - a small hole will inevitably leak out milk. Its happened about 70% of the time out of the last 30 bags I've had to thaw.

Absolutely ridiculous. How hard can it be to make a milk storage bag? The plastic needs to be thicker.

I have been really happy with these to store milk up to 8 oz. Just freeze them on a flat surface and then I "file them" in a box in the freezer, oldest bag first. There is space to write the date and volume on the bag so you can stay organized. Like another reviewer I have found that if you scrape or drop them at all they will leak when defrosted but I have only had this problem with about 5% of the bags (before I learned to be careful). If you are unsure, just defrost milk by putting these in a ziploc bac first. Other than that they have been first rate.

I've used these bags for about 2-3 months (approx. 700 bags?) and had only one small leak. I'm not sure why others have reported problems with leaking. I pump into Medela plastic bottles, put a Lansinoh storage bag into a big plastic cup to keep it standing upright, pour the milk into the bag, and push out as much air as possible before sealing the bag. To get the air out, it helps to "roll" the bag over the edge of a countertop to push the air out. I freeze the bags flat in a Tupperware container, collect a bunch of the frozen bags in a gallon-size plastic bag to store in any position, then thaw with warm water when ready to use. I think getting the air out might help to avoid leaks/tears and also preserves important nutrients in the milk by minimizing oxidation. I have been very happy with these bags.

I was hesitant to purchased these bags, reading so many reviews of them leaking. Yet we went ahead and put them on our registry, and I have used about 100 in the last 7 months (part time pumper). Most of the bag we have only had frozen for 1-3 weeks, and I thawed them on the counter or under running warm water with out any problems. Once the milk is thawed I typically transfer it to a bottle right away, but I have also pumped and dumped it into the bag for transport home and that has been fine too. I would recommend these bags as we have never had a leaker.

I would caution that you need to take care when pouring from the bag to a bottle, it is something that takes 2 hands- and my partner has spilled some milk. I don't think that this issue is specific to these bags, just storage bags in general.
