After discovering that Madela bags can make your milk smell and taste rancid, I switched. But, I also did a little comparison work:

Lansinoh bags can hold up to 6 ounces of breast milk.
Medela bags can hold up to 5 ounces of breast milk.

Lansinoh: On the simplest level, the Lansinoh bag is easier to open and pour milk into than the Medela bag. The reason I find it easier is because of the material the bag is made out of and the bag is more pliable. You open the bag by removing a small strip that is perforated on the top. There are two seals on these bags, which is a huge plus. It's a comfort in preventing leaks.

The reason why Lansinoh wins the freezing process is because they lay flat very well. I've found that when laid flat, the bag freezes into a solid rectangle of milk that is consistent in thickness. It is also easy to "stack" once frozen which is very helpful for organizing. It's also important to squeeze all the air out of the bag which is much easier to do since there is not a large plastic section at the top, like in the Medela bags.

Medela: The Medela bags have the ability to be attached directly to a pump. As a result, there is a large plastic area on the top of the bag that is perforated. This makes these bags a little bit more awkward to open.

Lansinoh: Since these bags are fantastic for the freezing process, they are easier to thaw because they are consistently the same thickness. They look like a perfect rectangle of frozen milk. Or you can freeze the bag standing up. My husband loves how easy it is to thaw these out. Way easier than Medela.

Medela: Bag leaks when you thaw it and sometimes they leak in the freezer (which really is a mess). This is because there is only one seal instead of the double seal on the Lansinoh bags.

1.0 out of 5 stars Super thin, leaky bags, November 30, 2010
This review is from: Lansinoh Breast Milk Storage Bags, 50-Count (Health and Beauty)
Out of the 3 brands of storage bags we've used (Medela, Lansinoh, and Simplisse), my favorite is the Simplisse.

The Medela bags only have a single zipper, and I had a lot of problems with bags leaking through the opening either during freezing or thawing. Also, the Medela bags only hold about 5 oz, so that meant having a LOT of bags to keep track of. The Lansinoh and Simplisse hold 8-10oz each.

The Lansinoh bags were our next shot. While they have a double zipper, the bags are super thin. Consequently, we would have a lot of problems with bags leaking elsewhere - either through an undetected puncture or through one of the seams. I would guess about 1 in 4 bags would spring a leak when thawing.

The Simplisse bags have a double zipper and are thicker than the Lansinoh - though not quite as thick as the Medela. In the box and a half we've used so far, I've had probably 3 leaks - and 2 of which were definitely my fault (the bag froze around the edge of a shelf, and I ripped the bag while forcing it off.)

I've tried them all - and these are the best! Nice thick plastic, secure closure, never leaked once (and I had a LOT of milk!).

I read many reviews before deciding to switch away from the Medela bags to these. I have been pumping regularly and freezing. I started thawing the other day only to find that these bags leak in the seams! Never had this problem with Medela. I called Lansinoh customer service and they said you are supposed to lay them flat to freeze, otherwise the milk expands and busts through the seams when thawing. The answer came so quickly, obviously they are aware of the issue. Then why not put it in the instructions on the packaging? I have ruined several bags of precious low supply milk. Buyer beware. Lansinoh, please modify your packaging.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for freezing breastmilk, August 10, 2010

Perfect milk storage solution. I work full time and have to store milk for my son while im not home. these bags have never leaked on me, they have a double ziplock top. You can lay them flat to disribute the milk evenly throughout the bag wich makes storage much easier and thawing milk a lot faster.couldn't ask for a better product.

Ugh... I just thawed two frozen bags of breast milk. One was in a Medela bag, the other in a Lansinoh bag.
They were both in the same bowl of warm water. The Medela one was thawing nicely, so I stuck the Lansinoh one in... and guess what?! The water in the bowl started to cloud. The Lansinoh bag LEAKED.

Now, ladies... all know how hard we work to produce this milk. Having milk wasted is heartbreaking. I won't buy these bags again and wish I didn't have a huge box left... I'm staring at all of my frozen milk in these bags and *hope* it doesn't all go to waste. I'll be placing my order for new Medela bags now - they are more expensive, but worth it. I've had 25 of them thaw out without any issues.

So these bags are really great! Having read through many, many reviews ourselves on this and other bags before buying...we found the answers and have had outstanding success with these!

Here is the deal...another reviewer gave us this idea and we have not had a single problem! 100% success with these bags! When you freeze these follow these rules:

First, put the milk in the bag
Second, let all the air out before you seal the ziplock
Third, lay the bag down flat on it's side while freezing

The third step is the most important! If you freeze them without laying flat...they may stress the seems and you may have problems when thawing! If you follow these rules you will love these bags and not have any issues!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Freezer bags, November 29, 2011

I ordered these after I had the Medela brand (the only other one I tried) and am so happy I did. I dont like to pump into a bag because I want to be precise on the volume so that feature was not needed for me. The scale on the bag accurately measures the liquid amount when poured from a bottle. The medela bags were not accurate in my opinion. Also these lay flat for freezing which is quicker thawing and they are easier to pour from, saving precious milk. Im very happy with this product and will continue to buy more.

Update: After returning to work and using the frozen bags I am even more happy with the Lansinoh Brand. I store 4 oz at a time and find since they lay flat they can be easily rinsed under cold water to thaw and then place in warm water to heat for baby. Pour into bottle and thats it. The Medela Bags hold barely 4 oz and when frozen the milk expands. There is only 1 closing zipper as opposed to 2 and despite attempting to ensure its closed find over and over milk leaking out...into my freezer and even once my husband had one empty entirely into the bowl he was thawing it into. I did notice one time the water in the bowl of the lansinoh brand tinted white as it might be leaking so I called the hotline and they sent me out replacement bags. Great customer service.

5.0 out of 5 stars strong bags, November 1, 2011
This review is from: Lansinoh Breast Milk Storage Bags, 50-Count (Health and Beauty)
I tried these bags because they are cheaper than the Medela bags that I had been using. I liked them much better for the following reasons.
#1 They have a double zipper. It's easy to zip and I can tell when it is sealed. the other bags never felt like they were completely sealed.
#2 They hold 6 ounces. Maybe more The Medela bags only hold 5 ounces and don't leave as much room at the top. When I started thawing my milk, I realized that 5 ounces was an odd number. The 6 ounce bags work for me because I could divide them into 3 ounce servings, and then, when she started eating more, 4 ounce servings. So the 6 ounces bags work better because I can thaw one or two and not have leftover.
#3 They have never leaked. The Medela bags have leaked into my freezer and cause a mess on more than one occasion. I have not had this problem with the Lansinoh bags.
#4 They are cheaper. The price is lower, but the quality is better.
#5 The shape of the bags makes it easier to pour milk into and out of it.
If you are pumping, I would definitely give these bags a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, May 30, 2011

This review is from: Lansinoh Breast Milk Storage Bags, 50-Count (Health and Beauty)
I started out with the Medela bags but since I was producing a lot of milk, it was getting expensive. The Lansinoh bags were cheaper and hold more milk, so I switched. These bags can hold more than what it says, which I ended up doing. However, sometimes when I thawed the milk, it would leak. I'm not sure if it's because I put in way too much or because the bag wasn't as thick as the Medela ones. I never had a leakage problem with the Medela bags. Being a first-time mom, I didn't realize any of this until much later. However, for what it does at the price I paid, I'd recommend it.

Pros:
- Cheaper than Medela bags
- Can hold more milk
- Easy to store. Just go to your local bulls eye or happy face store and get a cheap ice cube tray to store these bags. Although the fit isn't perfect, it's much cheaper than getting one sold as a breast milk storage container and keeps your milk bag contained in the freezer.

Cons:
- Not as thick as the Medela bags
- Occasional leakage. What I end up doing is thawing it in a large measuring cup and pouring in the leaked milk directly into the bottle. By putting it upright, you avoid the milk touching the ink.
