These bags leak while thawing the milk.

They are very sterile and if you freeze them flat in the freezer, you can store stacks and stacks of them in very little space.

After trying several other brands I have found these Lansinoh bags to be the best and cheapest bags for breastmilk storage.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE the Lansinoh bags but THIS SPECIFIC ORDER here in Amazon is NOT the same quality as the bags you buy in the store but they are Lansinoh. The box is a lighter purple, bags are thinner and have a flower design not the mother design. HOWEVER.....if you look at the date on the bottom of the boxes, the ones in the store that are thicker with the mother picture were produced in 2007, these here were made in 2010. If you go to the Lansinoh website and look at the bags they advertise, are the ones with the flower design sold here. I am disappointed that Lansinoh reduced the quality of their bags because I favored them above all the others. Amazon needs to update the picture to the actaul product they are sending out.

I have found these bags to be the best ones out there. They are thicker mm of plastic, have a double seal and a separate area to write on to avoid ink contamination. In my opinion, they are also much easier to pour to/from than other brands.

I also appreciate how they lay flat for more space-efficient storage. They have held up very well in my deep freeze in arctic temperatures!

I have used approximately 2,000 bags (seriously) and I have had only 9 that leaked. While I was sorry to lose those bags, I consider 9/2,000 to be pretty impressive odds.

These are more expensive than other ones out there, but I will pay that price to store my "liquid gold"!

If you are continually having difficulty with leaking bags, make sure you are freezing no more than 6 ounces at a time. Even though it looks like it will hold more, the milk will expand in the freezer. Also, you may want to freeze smaller quantities of milk so that there is less waste. You want to ensure that your baby will drink all that you defrosted, rather than having to discard it. I found it helpful to freeze some amounts in larger quantities, like 4 or 6 ounces and then smaller "top off" amounts for 2 or 3 ounces. Smaller amounts also less time to thaw...although this means you will use more bags. Also, don't drop them once they are frozen, which can also contribute to leaks.

I have used Ameda, Medela and Lansinoh bags recently, and figured I would post a comparison of the 3.

Ameda:
Love the pour spout, but haven't really had a spill issue with any of the other bags so it's more of a nice to have than a must have. Good, thick plastic, and bags stand up on their own quite well. Zipper seems secure, although sometimes its hard to tell if it's closed. Has the smallest zipper of the 3 bags. Can pump directly into.

Medela:
Similar to Ameda in plastic thickness and design. Also stands up on own easily. Zipper seems a bit more reliable than Ameda. I liked that the adapters were included in the box and these are easy to pump into.

Lansinoh:
The thinnest plastic of the 3, and don't really stand up on own easily. These have a double zipper though, which is great, and it's easy to tell when the zipper is closed. These also lie the flattest when frozen, making them the easiest for storing frozen milk. These are also by far the cheapest of the 3, usually costing around half of what the others do. However, these cannot be pumped directly in to.

Personally, I use the Lansinoh bags for whe I pump into bottles and then pour into bags for freezing. I use the Medela or Ameda ones when I want to pump directly into bags. In my opinion, they all stink as far as volume measurement, so if I need to know how much is in there, I usually pump into a bottle, measure based on the bottle reading, and then pour into the bag. Otherwise, when zipped, they usually read about 1 ounce more than what is actually in there.

Being a dad, I don't fill these bags, but I do empty them. The milk is either chilled or frozen and I haven't had any issue with leaking after a 4 months of use. My only complaint is that it doesn't seem possible to pour the milk into the bottle using only one hand. If these bags could be designed to be poured while at the same time holding a screaming baby, I would gladly pay more and give a 5-star rating.

These are my favorite bags. I originally had the Medela bags because I thought they would be easier (you can pump directly into those). I found that I didn't like pumping into the bags because I couldn't get a good measure at the end. I have tried the easy pour bags also, and they were not really that 'easy'.

I like these because they have two seals. And I have found them cheaper than the Medelas.

Overall, I am very pleased with this product. They are easier to fill than the Medela bags and the cost is reasonable. Like many of the other reviewers, I have had several bags that leaked. I called the manufacturer using the 1-800 number on the bag. They reminded me not to overfill the bags and actually sent me a package of bags as a replacement. They don't leak when you put the milk in, only during the thawing process (which tells me that something about freezing and thawing causes the leaks to spring up in the plastic). To manage this, I thaw the bags inside a quart sized ziploc bag. The ziploc bag catches any leaked milk and I don't loose anything. Very happy with the product and will continue to purchase throughout my nursing experience. I don't think double bagging is necessary, but I would suggest using a safety net (ziploc bag) in the thawing process to prevent any loss of milk from leaks.
