I bought this item for my 2nd time around being pregnant since I was determined to breastfeed. Most people I knew said Medela was the best pump out there, however being on a budget I couldn't afford it. I looked at the Lansinoh Double Breast Pump BPA numerous times and read amd read reviews. I finally decided to purchase it 3 weeks before I gave birth and couldnt have been happier! Once I decided to pump it worked great and it was pumped a lot of milk out. The only thing is that you may want to have someone (significant other) help you adjust the speed, it was a bit challenging to hold up the two pumps and try to adjust the speed. Also another great thing is that the milk DOES NOT pump back in the system so it makes it's easily cleaned and very sanitary which was one of my main concerns. Which I do belive other pumps do not have this feature. Overall it was a great product, well worth the money and I recommend for anyone on a budget and perhaps the 1st time breastfeeding. I look forward to using it again in the future when I have more kids.

I have both the Lansinoh and the Medela pumps. I like them both for different reasons, but either one will certainly get the job done. If this is your first time breastfeeding/pumping or your experiencing nipple tenderness, I'd go with the Lansinoh, it is gentler. I think this is because each pump on the Medela is directly connected to the motor by its own independent tubing. The Lansinoh is one tube out of the motor which splits into two after about 18". Full suction on the L is about 40% suction on the M. I've turned the Medela up a little higher a couple of times but always turned it back down! I think the Medela would have just caused more pain when I was first starting to pump. I like the Ls let down cycle more than the Ms. The L also has a better visual representation of the suction where Ms is a dial I find somewhat difficult to read with sleep deprived eyes in the wee hours of the morning. The Lansinoh is also easily battery powered by normal batteries in a built in compartment. You have to buy a separate battery adaptor for the Medela. The Lansinoh is just a touch easier to disassemble for cleaning though it has slightly more parts. The Lansinoh also has a built in timer which I really like.

The Medela has it's pros too. Mine is just the pump, not the pump built into a bag, so it is just a little cube, with small Cary handle and side net pockets for the tubing and power adaptor so it's a very neat and tidy little package. I find the Medela easier to use if I'm only going to be pumping one side. The M also has noticeable longer tubing so if your pumping hands free you have more wiggle room in mobility. The biggest benefit to the Medela is being able to use the 2.5oz bottles to pump into instead of the 5oz size.

Let me start by saying that I researched pumps for months before ultimately deciding on this one. I am a stay at home mom, but wanted to build up a good supply of milk in my freezer for car trips, certain outings, and the very occasional babysitter. The first time that I sat down to use this I got 4 ounces in 10 minutes, and the next time I got 6 ounces in 5 minutes! It is very powerful, and I really don't see how the big name-brand pumps could be any better! This is the same pump as the Ameda, just purple and marketed under the Lansinoh name, so all the parts are interchangeable. Another note: I had a big-name single electric pump, and having to clean the tubing was such a pain! This pump is a closed system, so it is easier to clean and more hygienic than other pumps.

In short, don't waste your money on big-brand pumps! This will serve you well!

Bought this pump for pumping at home in preperation for returning to work. I am a nurse who works with infants whose moms often pump on our unit, so I am familiar with the hospital grade pumps, but have never used one myself. This pump is designed exactly like the newer model pumps we have on our unit. Used it to pump near term while pregnant to try to stimulate labor and was able to express the same amount of colostrum as our brand new moms do. Now 2 1/2 weeks post delivery, the pump has been very effective in pumping "extra" milk.

The one thing I do not like abot the pump is that the nipple flanges only come in one size and are hard plastic and were uncomfortable in the begining. I was used to the soft flanges in multiple sizes that came with my old, cheap pump from several years ago. The flange size was appropriate for me, but may not fit everyone.

HELPFUL HINT straight from the lactation consultant: Start the pumping on the short, fast cycle on low suction until letdown. Once letdown has occured, change the settings to the slower, longer cycles and slightly increse the suction setting. This imitates the infants feeding pattern.

I use this pump everyday at home and at work. It works very well and is quiet. It is also very easy to clean. For the money, it's a much better deal than some of the other pumps out there that are more expensive and harder to clean. So what if it doesn't come with it's own fancy carrying bag? Just be careful if you have pets, my cat seems to think that the silicone tubing and diaphrams are delicious! Luckily, it was still under warrenty and Lansinoh replaced the parts he ate for free.
