I bought this item to help me sharpen my lawn equipment instead of a file. Shovels, machetes, lawn mower blades, axes and the like. It didn't disappoint. It's a very coarse stone, so if you want a razor sharp edge on your stuff, you would need to get a separate finishing stone (obviously). Be careful if you do, because the sharper the edge, the easier it will chip if it isn't made out of top-quality steel.

It is also fairly long, about 10", a little over 2" wide at the middle, and about .5" thick. It fits fairly well in my hand (between Men's size M and L). In my opinion, it's too bulky and heavy to take backpacking or camping, since a smaller stone will do the trick in almost all cases. This is especially useful when sharpening things with very long edges; like machetes and lawn mower blades, and as such, is a great tool to have in the garage.

This tool has been very helpful with sharpening my lawn tools. I don't have to keep running small stones (sized for knife-sharpening) over the blades and I don't risk shortening the life of the blades by taking off tons of metal like with a file.

Bits of metal will get stuck in the pores, as with other stones. I found the easiest way to combat that is to completely submerse the stone in a pitcher of water after each time you run over the blade. It'll probably end getting your pants soaked if you aren't careful, but better water than oil.

I bought this for my bug out bag. I wanted a better option for field use.

Axe, Cold Steel Shovel, ESEE knives...all my field cutlery (and BOB cutlery) is high carbon steel for strength and ease of sharpening. The hockey puck style didn't really work for me, but I've seen it used wonderfully by others.

This allows me to use it with a full-hand grip and be able to balance pressure applied and keep the angle consistent - something I couldn't do with the hockey puck style. It's light and works.

A great tool / hard use knife sharpener.

Did a great job sharpening my machete. I used it on a new Ontario machete, with no edge at all. It took me a while but I now have a very nice edge on it. The stone held up well and shows very little sings of use for how much I had to do to get my machete sharp. I would recommend this to anyone looking to sharpen long blades that needs a course stone.

Great tool for sharpening by hand. It is not real aggressive so takes some a while to get the toll sharpened. It is easy to grip and long enough so that you have a longer stroke for faster results.

Sharpener works great, I use it mainly for my knives and camp axe that I have. Takes the edge down pretty fast and is easy to use than the Lansky Puck that I bought. One thing to note though is that is it quite big, the picture is misleading. I thought that it was maybe 4-5 inches but it is well over that, I would have to guess that it would be 7-8 inches long. Works great though, use it for all my roughing work on my edged companions. :)

I use this to sharpen shovels, a heavy duty brush cutter, and my favorite, the japan hook cutter.
I can put a ding any any of these tools, grind out, or hammer back the deformed metal and finish
up with this stone.
Perfect for these applications.

I needed something to sharpen my gardening tools on a regular basis. First I bought these three items:

Accu Sharp 060 Accu Sharp 060 GardenSharp Tool Sharpener
Lansky Dual Grit Sharpener Lansky Dual Grit Sharpener
Lansky Multi-purpose Lawn and Garden Sharpener Lansky Lawn & Garden Multi Purpose Sharpener

Surely one of these would do the trick and make my solve my dull gardening and yard tool problem. Well, yes, they do... eventually, sort of... The two "stone like" sharpening tools work well on all tools and they stick shaped one allows you to work between tines and on smaller blades (pruners and such), but both of these tools are slow and tedious to use if you are going for a sharp edge. It would take me 30-40 minutes to sharpen one full size shovel with these sharpeners.

The Accu Sharp Gadget is only useful for delicate small hand shovels and some pruners/shears (but not most of them). It is useless on larger tools or blades that are sharpened on one side only (most pruners). The edge that it ultimately creates if very blunt and dulls quickly. I haven't used it since my first efforts with it. Not recommended.

Then a couple weeks ago, I had our ficus hedge removed. The crew that removed it was using a drill/driver mounted
grinding tool to sharpen all their tools (pick axes, shovels, machetes and some heavy spades) as they chopped and dug through those ficus roots. Eureka!
