I make a special knife "holster". I have been buying a much more expensive knife and recently saw the trapper from Lansky and ordered four just to try them. I actually like this knife better than anything else I have seen and it is cheaper. I love it!

On first appearance I saw the handles on this particular knife weren't properly shaped and fitted to the brass liners, leaving some visible gaps which seemed to have been attempted to be "filled" (adhesive?). The handles didn't fill out to fully cover the brass liners. This means the back edge of the brass liners are slightly exposed above the handles on the spine of the knife, and are sharp enough to catch skin. The liners aren't smoothly finished, either, with some nicks and an uneven grind at one spot.

The blades are tight, though, and move smoothly. They're nicely polished, with clean edge grinds and are moderately sharp from the box.

The poorly sized & fitted handles, and roughly finished brass liners, detract from what otherwise would be a nicely done example of a medium-priced Trapper. I expected better for the price point, since it's not a $5-$9 knife. If I'd examined it in a store, I'd have kept looking for one with better fitted handle scales.

The appearance, fit and finish of the blades are the saving graces for this knife (but not enough for me to give it more than 3 stars).

It's not the only Trapper pocket knife I own, so the sloppily fitted handles and blemishes won't be a problem. I'll use it as a "working knife".
