If you are using an "Arkansas" type stone - this oil is a must for you. Works well, coats the stone easily and lasts. Not as messy as other oils and wipes clean quickly leaving the stone ready for the next use without clogging.

Really a good honing oil. I feel honing oils are essential for getting a super edge but don't go overboard with it. This bottle should last for a good while.

Essential for Sharpening,

I sharpen our own kitchen knives using various stones and find that honing oil such as Lansk Nathan's to greatly assist in the sharpening process, rather than using, water for example as a wetting agent. It helps keep the metal bits from adhering to the stone, causing build up that can be frustrating to remove. I haven't found a good way to rinse off the residue without dirtying the sink making clean up messy and somewhat annoying. I may not be doing something properly in the process, so if any sharpening experts read this, they can help me by commenting.
