5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Songs; Intro to a Hot Album, June 19, 2001
By
"worldsend" (chicago, illinois Usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lapdance / Rock Star-Poser / What's Wrong Me (Audio CD)
The N.E.R.D. is the alter ego of the production group THE NEPTUNES. Pharrell who sings on Mystikal's "Shake it Fast", Jay-Z's "I just want to love you", THA Liks "The Best U Can" and Babyface's new song "There She goes". They have produced all those songs plus Kelis's album,Ray J's song,Busta's new song and other things. Now they have ventured to the Alternative Stream will rap and R&B influence. This song lapdance feature newcomer Harvey and Vita of Murder INC on the chorus. The song is hot along with Rockstar Poser and What's wrong with me" which is my favorite. The beats and production is immaculate. The album is hot, it will be titled "In Search Of.. with tracks like Bobby James, Tape You and Brain, this album will be a classic fusion of a production masterpiece with Pharrell voice leading the way. Cop this right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Newly Found Nerd, March 31, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Lapdance / Rock Star-Poser / What's Wrong Me (Audio CD)
Alright I was sitting in my room and flicked on MTV 2 all of a sudden this group came on called. N.E.R.D the music video(Rock star) turned out a little weird but I loved the beat and lyrics. This CD is great, the music is original and it keeps giving you somethin differnt. Unlike some artists who keep using the same tempo and beat. I can't wait to see more from nerd

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clever, very smart, June 27, 2001

Can't wait to hear more--I too saw this on MTV 2 first. The beat and hook grabbed me, but just a brief understanding of the lyrics made me want to hear more. Top to bottom, this thing is solid. Musically, lyrically, and attitude. While the rest of hip hop is still stuck in the 90s, N.E.R.D. gives a shout out to the 21st Century.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tight rap song, June 3, 2001

This song has a great beat. I first saw this song on MTV 2.. I was like this song is dumb.. The more I listened to it, the better I realized it was.. I figure we'll hear more of N.E.R.D., Vita, and Lee Harvey as time passes by.

5.0 out of 5 stars industry outsider, August 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Lapdance (Audio CD)
How does music fan from Spokane know the whole album more than two months before its release date (June 9 - Aug 14 in U.S.)? I have seen early copies of albums and bootlegs from early studio stuff but I didn't know final mixes of complete albums were normally sent out to insiders more than two months in advance of the actual release date. The record company I used to for must have been slow. I hope there are other songs on the album as good as this first single because they seem to be adept at making unusual songs with mass appeal.

4.0 out of 5 stars IF YOU THINK YOU HEARD SOMETHING YET..., March 9, 2002
This review is from: Lapdance (Audio CD)
N.E.R.D. is comprised of Pharell Williams and Chad Hugo
(there's also a silent member,Sha) who are also known as the
ubiqtious,hit-making duo whose keyboard/drum machine-heavy,trippy,funky,
rock-edged beats are a staple on radio and on folks' albums.
Everyone from Norega(remember 1998's soaring "Superthug"?) to N'Sync,
Mystikal("Shake It Fast") to Babyface,Limp Bizkit to Usher(his current single
"U Don't Have To Call").Please...this review would be too long if I were to give you the Neptunes' extensive resume.
(But I can't fail to mention that the 'Tunes are the guys behind Jay-Z's "I Just Wanna Love You(Give It To Me)" and Ludacris' "Southern Hospilaty",not to mention the edgy R&B siren Kelis, among many many more).

Well the Neptunes also moonlight as the experiemental, very rock influence N.E.R.D.
They aren't afraid to be different(as the outspoken Pharell has proved in many interviews) and this free-sprited nature has caused their trippy debut "In Search Of..." to be delayed several times.

Bad thing,you say,right?
No,I think it's a great thing.Here's why...

"Lapdance"-"In Search Of..."'s intial first single in the U.S.-was hot. With eerie keys, blasting sirens,a seductive hook by Murder Inc. vixen Vita, and a political message disguised as a strip club anthem,it was clear that N.E.R.D. were something different.Yet many feared that the very confined world of urban radio(and the Neptunes' more thugged out fans) wouldn't accept it.

BUT that was the 2001 version of "Lapdance".Which was basically just a more far out version of familar Neptunes fare.NOW the new version of "Lapdance" is something
ELSE! If you thought last year's "Lapdance" was something, just wait until you hear this one. With live drums replacing the thumping drum machine and a sticky guitar,
"Lapdance" is now a rock anthem YET still makes you want to move.
This is the type of music that I think we more of in mainstream hip hop/R&B.
Music that is edgy, worldy, diverse YET sill funky and true to itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars good single, June 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Lapdance (Audio CD)
this is a pretty tight single. the neptunes definately bring something different to the rap game. "In Search Of", their new album coming out soon, isnt bad either, but this is definately one of the higlights of it. watch out for it.
