I have to use my computer at home a lot and I sometimes like to work in bed late at night or while on the sofa watching tv and this thing is perfect!

I assume they would work great in bed as well since the legs are adjustable.

Got my lapdesk today, and it is just what I needed! Construction seems pretty good, and it's not flimsy whatsoever. Nothing is loose, but I don't like the fact that the laptop stand does not sit flush with the other part of the desk when closed. It's not even really a big deal since I'll mostly be using this desk for reading or to set my laptop on. It's really only about 1/16" off...and that's just me being nitpicky.

I do really like that the lid and the leg that keeps the lid propped open are secured with magnets when not in use. My laptop (15" macbook pro) is very stable when on the stand, though I already have a stand that I will most likely use instead, since it's vented and my laptop tends to get hot.

I find it to be a good height, but a little adjustability in the legs would be nice to have if I ever need that option. The product dimensions don't really give any indication of how tall this thing is when in use, so for future potential buyers: it is only about 8-1/4" tall when legs are fully opened. This measurement is from bottom of legs to top of work surface, not including the book ledge. The desk thickness measures about 1-3/4" thick giving you approximately 6-1/2" of clearance for your legs. I consider myself to be of somewhat average size, and when I use this thing on my bed, I still have a good couple inches to maneuver myself/get comfortable, etc.

The legs do not lock in place, which seems kind of silly considering the rest of the design, so if you're moving around too much and pushing on the legs, it is possible that the desk could collapse onto your lap/floor/etc. Not good, if there's something heavy or fragile resting on it; so just be aware of what you're doing when using the desk. I don't really foresee that to be an issue for me.

It would be great if the legs were adjustable...so I could set it a little higher at times. And it would be great if the legs locked into place, as then, when you move it around, it wouldn't tend towards collapsing. Other than that, it's worth the extra bucks for the sturdiness, and the bamboo is sustainable. It's not a piece of junk that will wind up in your trash bin in a year. Seems better than anything else I found online.

I had ordered this product because I can no longer use my laptop on my "lap" due to getting older. My knee was sore and almost non-functional for a few days from using an old-fashioned wooden tray again for my laptop. It was not a problem in the past.

I was going to order a cheaper product, but after reading poor reviews about Winsome trays, I decided on this product mainly because it was on sale, and it looked good in the pictures, and the previous review had good things to say about it.

When it arrived and I tried it out, it works great. No more pressure on my knees. It fits me perfectly. Also, it looks so beautifully crafted that my 7-year-old daughter wants it for herself. Sorry, dear.

However, I think the legs may be a problem because they are not locked into place, but I think that if one would move the tray out while getting up, one would just pick up only the legs and keep them outward, rather than the tray itself. Then, it wouldn't be an issue of the legs collapsing.

I love this product.

Edit: Still using this product as of Feb. 2013. It works great. Never had the non-functional/sore-knee issue again.

The build quality of this thing is actually very good. The problem I have is that it's so SMALL.

It holds my 17" MacBook Pro but it looks a bit weird since my MBP is larger than the part that's able to lift and angle. It does keep it up though.

The area for the mouse is also a bit cramped. My mouse pad dangles off the side a bit but it's workable.

If you have a smaller laptop or small legs, this is probably a good desk. For me being a 6 ft. dude, I wish I picked something else.

Read the various reviews for similar items (different makers) - was a bit hesitant based on so many reviews mentioning issues with legs collapsing & screws popping out - went for it anyway, liking the bamboo material... Has worked beautifully and no issues whatsoever with legs or quality of workmanship. Used 99% of time in bed and fits well over legs/lap - when lifting off lap, legs haven't collapsed, at least not yet - hopefully this remains the case in the long run. Overall, good looking product and well made. You get what you pay for. Recommended... Update: 1 year later (Nov, 2012) still solid with no problems.

Mixed feelings on this product. Good news: it is very sturdy and well put together. The Bamboo and workmanship is solid, unlike so many cheaply made items these days. Bad news: Like one of the other reviewers pointed out, it seems to be limited/snug in the leg room department. I am also average sized (140 lbs; 5ft 7in), and wonder if this Made in China product was perhaps designed for a more petite silouette? Ended up returning this item. :(

This is a great, sturdy tray that I use without any problems on the couch. The only thing I would change about the tray would be to make the legs a little taller - my couch is pretty soft so often the top will sink and the tray ends up resting on my thighs instead of being supported by the wooden legs.
