Laptop Keyboard for Dell Inspiron 1100, 1150, 5100, 5150, 5160 Series

I bought this when my Inspiron 5100 lost some keys. It looks exactly the same, feels the same and all. My hot keys are matching colors as well. It's a type of purplish-blue common on Dell products. I would buy again!

When the keybpad stopped workign for certain keys, my first thought was - I need a new laptop!!! Yikes!!! But, I put the problem and model into Google, and found a Youtube video explaining exactly how to replace the keypad! I ordered this keypad, it came in packaged perfectly, I reviewed the Youtube video again and changed the thing in 7 minutes!!!! My laptop has been saved for a small price and I did it myself! I know this product saved me a hundred dollars in diagnosis and repair fees!!! It has been working perfectly since!!! ANYBODY can change the keypad!!! Do not even worry about it. Do what I did and and save a ton of money! Great product!

The keyboard arrived promptly and was well packaged. But I didn't look at it at first. To my horror, there was no connector on the keyboard ribbon! Panic! Google to the rescue. Turns out it is very easy to remove the connector from the original keyboard cable and to insert the new ribbon. There are two little keys on each side of the original connect and you just need to gently push them toward the outside and it releases the cable. Push in new cable and close.

To be fair, they never said they included the connector. My bad for assuming. And I think this is where some other people have gone wrong and thus given poor reviews.

I did contact the company in my disappointment and they responded in a very understanding manner. They were totally ready to take the keyboard back at their expense. But I'm happy to report that a return wasn't necessary.

I got it as a replacement when my current keyboard went bad. Works as expected without any issues.

Well, sometimes things happen and something gets spilled on your laptop keyboard and it gets fried. I ordered this for my Inspiron 1100 and it was even better than the original, the only difference was the colors on the hotkey buttons. (They were purple rather than blue on the original)

Despite the fact that the original item came damaged, they were fast to replace it, and very courteous besides. Excellent transaction!

this item is a excellent quality part for Dell Inspiron 5100... 100% recommended... my old laptop is back to life...

The keyboard works well. There is no connector/adapter, had to use the old one from old keyboard. Other than that, everything is fine.

Customers should be aware that this keyboard does not have a connector on the ribbon. You can still replace the keyboard fairly easy, but you'll have to do an extra step that isn't included on the instructions of how to replace keyboards you'll find online and on YouTube.
Replacing the keyboard is relatively easy. You remove the bezel on the top of the keyboard with a flathead screwdriver, unscrew the screws on top, lift old keyboard up, and disconnect the ribbon from the motherboard. The extra step is that you have to remove the connector from the old keyboard ribbon and put it on the new keyboard ribbon. To do it is pretty straightforward. Look at the ribbon on the new keyboard and you'll see that it has two small tabs at the end. That's what holds it in place. So hold the ribbon of the old keyboard in one hand and firmly push down on the connector and it should pop off. (you might want to mark the 'front' of the connector before you do this so that you put it in the correct alignment on the new) Then simply push the new keyboard ribbon into the slot on the top of the connector. The tabs should pop back into the connector. Then connect to the motherboard and proceed.

I replaced my keyboard in less than five minutes. So far (one day) the keyboard works fine.

Seeing just how simple it was to replace -- I put up a broken keyboard for far too long. Works great!
