book report material,
By Kirsten M. Houseknecht "Practice is the midwi... (philadelphia, pa USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Laptop Lunch User's Guide: Fresh Ideas for Making Wholesome, Earth-friendly Lunches Your Kids Will Love (Paperback)
This is the user manual that you get when you buy a Laptop Lunch system. (which i own, and which works very well for packing a typical American's lunch.)
It is about two thirds lessons on resources, recycling, and how much Americans throw away, and one third information about nutrition and packing lunch. If you are already aware of the need to reduce our dependence on plastic wraps, school lunches, high sodium tasteless preserved food, etc. then you wont find anything new here. there are only a few recipes in this book, and if you are looking for lunch recipes you would be better served by buying a true recipe book. One thing you MAY wish to get this book for would be a school report. This book has a LOT of information that a child (or PTA member) could use in discussing school nutrition, reducing waste and related topics.

User's Guide to go with the Lunch Box,
By booklover (pa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Laptop Lunch User's Guide: Fresh Ideas for Making Wholesome, Earth-friendly Lunches Your Kids Will Love (Paperback)
I received this user's guide WITH the laptop lunch box "kit" I purchased on their website. It is a nice little guide that helped soften the blow of explaining to my husband why I spent $45 for a lunch box. Despite the steep price of the lunch box kit I do LOVE the laptop lunch box and use it daily for my child's school lunches. The user's guide book is a nice quality , informative little manual with some menus, kid-friendly recipes, and suggestions for using the laptop lunch box. If you don't already own the bento-style laptop lunch box I don't think I would recommend spending the money on this user's guide. You can get more for your money by purchasing a regular book/cookbook on healthy lunches. I DO recommend purchasing the laptop lunch box which is very high quality and lots of fun!

Good, but not really what I needed,
By Kathy Kraus (Northern California, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Laptop Lunch User's Guide: Fresh Ideas for Making Wholesome, Earth-friendly Lunches Your Kids Will Love (Paperback)
I did not get any fresh ideas from this book. If you are already preparing earth friendly lunches i.e. using reusable containers most of this information will not be new to you. I was looking for some new recipes for lunches and I found that in "Brown Bag Success" by Sandra K. Nissenberg and Barbara Pearl.

A Great Way to Teach Kids About Nutrition,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Laptop Lunch User's Guide: Fresh Ideas for Making Wholesome, Earth-friendly Lunches Your Kids Will Love (Paperback)
The Laptop Lunch User's Guide provided me with concrete suggestions for helping get my kids involved in lunchmaking. With its dual focus on nutrition and waste reduction, the book teaches children how to take care of their bodies and the planet as well. I hope that many more parents will read this book and pack nutritious lunches for their kids. So many of the nation's children are both undernourished and overfed, but as parents, we can make a stab at reducing the incidence of childhood obesity.

The Laptop Lunch User's Guide has helped me to come up with new ideas for lunch making that my kids love and I feel good about. It gave me lots of information about how to pack a waste-free lunch and even gave me tips for my picky eater. The User's Guide has become my lunchtime survival guide.

This book makes it easier to figure out what to put in your child's lunch...to make it fun, interesting as well as nutritious. Also, it's great to know you are making a difference by sending a waste free lunch to school with your child...changing the world, one person at a time...plus it's fun to tell your friends about the lunch container AND the great resource book that comes with it.Enjoy! ...

I recently ordered a Laptop Lunchbox for my son, and didn't bother ordering a bento 'cookbook' because this book came with the box, so I figured I'd be all set. There are maybe a dozen recipes included, and I didn't really see anything that seemed original or must-try. The majority of the book is info on being green and eating clean, which is great info, if that's what you're looking for and are unable to access the internet to find all the same stuff presented in a more interesting format. This book will not serve as an inspiration for bento-style lunches. I would absolutely recommend you spend your money of a different item. If I'd purchased it separately, I would have returned it - it's black and white, boring to read, and uninspired.
That said - TOTALLY buy a Laptop Lunch Box! My son will be entering first grade this Fall, and we were both so excited with this purchase that I'm already packing him lunches in the morning that he takes to picnic on in the backyard. So fun!
