5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Laptop Repair Book - the best out there.
I just finished reading this book, cover to cover. Just couldn't stop reading it, as Morris keeps it interesting. Moreover, it's an amazing resource for laptop troubleshooting and repair. In fact, the best I've ever read. Much better then Mueller's in terms of troubleshooting and the depth and scope of repairs - and it only has 191 pages. Armed with this book and the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book On Trouble Shooting Laptop Problems
This book has a lot more useful information than books costing more that twice this amount!

The author knows his material. The sister website is also filled with pictures and descriptions that are really good.

The book could use an update as some of the information in the book is pretty dated.

This book is a good value for the money...

Armed with this book and the laptop's service manual, you are set to attack most of the problems you'll run into with laptops. Like Morris says in the front of the book, you'll notice we don't talk about the razzle-dazzle technology of computer components in this book." It's about fixing them and getting them back into working order. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straightforward and easy to follow, August 19, 2008
This review is from: The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers (Paperback)
Based on steps provided I was able to repair an issue with my own laptop. The local shop gave an estimate of over 200 dollars for the repair. Doiing it myself I was able to replace the 20 dollar part myself in a short period of time. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, September 12, 2009
This review is from: The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers (Paperback)
The best resource/guide out there! I know how to fix notebooks and PCs but sometimes you could be lost or not on the right track and that's when a book like this one comes in handy. Also, the author links each troubleshooting step in the book to great pics posted on his website. The website also gives you some extra valuable tips. I highly recommend this book to anyone. Why? Because you don't know EVERYTHING and ANYBODY can make mistakes and need a little help or guidance. Great job!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good troubleshooting tool, November 17, 2008
This review is from: The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers (Paperback)
I became interested in laptops recently and decided to purchase this book. I did an extensive search and I could not find many resources for laptop repair. This field is constantly moving with new models every year. This a great book if you are interested in fixing your laptop. Although it is more about troubleshooting rather than repair it will get you to the problem.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book On Trouble Shooting Laptop Problems, July 28, 2011

This book has a lot more useful information than books costing more that twice this amount!

The author knows his material. The sister website is also filled with pictures and descriptions that are really good.

The book could use an update as some of the information in the book is pretty dated.

This book is a good value for the money. The book is well organized, quite readable and interesting.

There are some repairs that you may be able to do on your own with this book. But I look at the book as a resource to determine what is most likely wrong with the computer in order to make intelligent decision on what course of action to follow.

Once armed with likely problem causes and potential repair costs then it makes it easier to set a plan of action, repair or replace without throwing money blindly at the problem.

Lets face it in this day and age laptops have become commodity items, and it may make more sense to replace than to repair, especially when you can get a very fast and fully loaded Intel core I5 laptop for $400+.

Due to all of the integrated parts of a laptop, this is a nice way to get a good starting point in diagnostics. Very easy to use and very specific flowcharts!

This review is from: The Laptop Repair Workbook: An Introduction to Troubleshooting and Repairing Laptop Computers (Paperback)
This book is not for anyone without a good background working on laptops. This book is a guide only and will give a person a very general trouble shooting technique. It is not very informative as far as working on a laptop, so the title with the word repair is misleading. There is some good information and a glossary that will help a person understand some terms pertaining to laptiops, but that can found for free in a lot of places. Perhaps the title would be more appropriate if it read "Trouble Shooting Guide for Laptops". That way once a user of this book finds or thinks they find the problem with their laptop, they can then purchase a book on how to repair the problem. Having said that, the book is a good book to read for learning how to trouble shoot a problem, be it with a laptop or anything else that has failed to operate correctly. The flow diagram will work with most anything as far as trouble shooting goes. If a person is not familiar with designing a flow chart for troulbe shooting, this will be good place to learn. A person would just have to fill in the flow chart with thier own information pertaining to the problem.
