I wanted to give it a 2.5 but that wasn't an option so I rounded up. I'm not really sure where to begin. I read this book on the recommendation of a lady at the nail shop, she raved about how great it was. I unfortunately have to agree with many of the other reviewers. Underdeveloped characters, pointless references and too many typos. Triple Crown does not proofread which is obvious, but aside from that the ending was so improbable. The manner in which the story was told was confusing, it was relayed from his view, her view the past and the present, simultaneously. It wasn't HORRIBLE but I would not recommend it.

Come On People.....This Book Was Underdeveloped,

I love to read all types of novels but come on this could have been a better story but between the errors and the story never developing I would recommend that no one purchases this book. I only read it to the end because I didn't want to waste 15.00 dollars. Then at the end the author tells you how the story was not true of course it wasn't true and anybody who thinks it is better check their lightbulb in their brain.
WHAT A WASTE OF CASH FO" REAL PEEPS.

Terrible,

I don't really read "hood" books, but one boring night at work I had nothing to read and this book was on the book shelf. What a total waste of time. The story is dumb and the legal stuff was totally unrealistic. It read like a teenager wrote it, grammatical errors and all. Definitely do not spend your money on this trash. Amazon needs to get a "0" star rating

Liked It,

It was a good read aside from the grammatical errors and whatnot. I didn't like how the author kept flipping back and forth between Javon and Sonya's lunch date and Javon's past. Also when making phone calls the Ring, Ring, Ring grew annoying. That part was like an elementary school student writing for the first time. And the ending=unrealistic.
And for all women I do not like how Sonya was portrayed. She was self-proclaimed as "That bitch" but her behavior towards Javon was clingy and demanding. In a nutshell though, a good read.

An Alright Hood Story that Needs an Editor-save your 15 dollars,

This review is from: Larceny (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
The book started off slow, but it picked up speed. The character development didn't make sense; Poole shouldn't have prtrayed Jovan's man as being so loyal in every sense then having him trick at the end. Poole tried to hard to have the novel full of twists, his desire for a surpise ending resulted in characters completley contradicting themselves.
It was a quick read like all Triple Crown books, but it lacked depth. Yes I enjoyed it, but no I wouldn't pay 15 dollars check it out from the library. The writing style was nothing to rave about; it was simple and plain written. The most frusturating thing was the grammatical errors. Is it that hard to proofread a book? Does Triple Crown not know what a publisher's job entails? By reading the book one time I picked up well over thirty errors. I'm not knocking Poole for all the mistakes that's not his job, but come on there were mistakes on every other page. The stories told from the present tense then the past tense in one sentence. I think its best that Triple Crown authors move on after their first book to a real publisher. Readers shouldn't be paying to proofread. But I'm glad to see Poole and others doing their thang while being locked up. I can't knock the hustle.

Larceny was a great read. I really enjoyed this book because it brought to light the fact that everything that glitters isn't gold. It should be a reminder to anyone that best friends can and will have a change of heart when their back's against the wall.

This book overall was an o.k. read. I liked Javon's character and he seemed overall believable. However Sonya's character was very underdeveloped and hard to understand. She should have never had her story told in first person because we didn't know her well enough. The love she quickly felt for Javon seemed unrealistic and came from nowhere. Although Javon claimed to love her too, it also seemed to materialize from nowhere. The author needed to spend more time developing their connection if he wanted it to be believable. The jumping from Sonya to Javon and past and present tense was confusing as well. I thought the ending was very unbelievable and overall the story left me feeling like "who cares". The whole twist with Bilal was pretty stupid. They spent so much time telling us how close Javon and Bilal were, only for Bilal to be the snitch in the end. I understand the author wanting twists but that was just ridiculous. Also the way Javon was so smooth with killing... again not enough development of that to really believe he was killing folks in the ten minute breaks he lunched with Sonya. The author definitely needs to spend more time with character development and of course the grammatical errors were very distracting.

In the winter of '85 back in DC an unbreakable bond was formed between Bilal Davis and Jovan Price. At an early age Bilal was taking on grown man responsibilities. Jovan feels responsible for Mal-Mal being without his older brother so he looks out for him. A tragic accident occurs to Mal-Mal and Jovan feels totally responsible. Jovan feels he owes Bilal his life sow when there back on the streets Jovan handles his business as an assassin and Bilal doesn't have to worry about a thang. Together on the streets of DC and they are about to get involved with "the cruelest lie told in silence" without any consent and with intentions of permantantly depriving someone of their freedom. Find out will this bond survive or will death come before dishonor. Minus the grammatically errors the story was overall a good read. The errors didn't take away from the story. |
