I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my Mom, who is not noted for her love of technically complex products. No problem with the Chameleon. She has been using it to take pictures of everything from her dogs to an new addition to her home, with surprisingly good results.

When using indoors, be sure to use as much lighting as possible, our early efforts were on the dark side. Outdoor photos are remarkably good, with details we never noticed before.

The camera is easy to use. Turn it on, set the flash on or off, point and shoot. 35mm users will need to get used to no film advance noise when shooting, the camera is nearly silent. We've been downloading the pictures at about the 50 picture mark, with the camera indicating another 50 picture capacity. Just plug the USB cable to the camera and your computers USB jack and let the fun begin. It takes a couple seconds per picture to download, much faster than a serial connection. (This was the reason I purchased the Chameleon as opposed to Largan's higher res model which doesn't offer a USB connector....

I didn't come to the site to praise the chameleon, I came to BUY one for myself! I'm going on a cruise and leaving my 35mm at home. The Largan is about the size of a deck of cards, and is ideal for travel. I can fit it in my shirt pocket and it's so light I forget it's there.

Features include a self-timer, a tripod hole, and carrying case.

...the savings on film and convenience of nearly instant photos makes this a great idea for real estate agents, appraisers or those of you still taking expensive Polaroid pictures.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good little camera..., February 13, 2001

This is my first digital camera. Have already taken about 200 shots in 2 days or so. Beats a film-type camera for sure. Can take a picture and see it as soon as downloaded.

Pros:

1) It's small and light in weight.

2) Macro feature is nice.

3) Also the self-timer

3) Software installs easily.

4) Once you find the right screen buttons to push...downloading the photos is quick and easy.

5) Software has a "Panorama" feature for "stitching" several photos together.

6) Video mode is nice...frame rate is slow though. No previous experience here.

6) After 200 photos, the battery is still showing a full charge (not too many flash shots though).

Cons:

1) When the camera is first turned on, you need to push 3 buttons to get to the place where you can take non-flash pictures. Would prefer that this was the first option instead.

2) Probably need Win98SE installed or access to a Win98SE CD for a file that is needed?

3) Resolution could be better, but unless you take a picture of something with a lot of sharp, straight edges....it takes pretty good pictures.

Note: To "install" the strap, you simply push the thin end (string end) thru one of the 2 openings near the battery cover...this end will appear out of the other opening and can then be looped. Instructions were poor here.

Conclusion: Having fun...hope it lasts. The camera and the fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Power Buy, July 10, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Largan Chameleon Digital Camera with Mr. Photo Software / Updates (Electronics)
This is by far the best 3 in 1 I've found, it's a lot cheaper than most of the models/brands available in the market, thus it has a stylish look, and gets the job done. You can take as much as 120 pictures, thus the frame rate in video mode is not as fast as I would have liked, hey, for the price paid, yu can't ask for more.
