I bought this extended life battery for my SZ-470N exactly one year ago. I used it less than half the time since the stock battery is fine for most situations. Now, it lasts about 20 minutes on a full charge which with Vista, is about enough time to boot up and pull email. Forget lasting through a domestic flight, much less an international one (and the SZ laptop sucks too much power for most in-seat power systems). Even when this battery was new, I only got about 3 to 3.5 hours on a charge with normal Office applications, viewing PDF docs, etc. which was 50% more than the stock SZ battery which got 2 hours when new (and about 1 to 1.5 hours today). The VGP-BPL2C battery is now no longer providing enough uptime for me to bother including in my carry-on bag. By the way, be careful when shopping online as there are numerous fake BPL2C batteries out there which only claim 6600mAh and no doubt are pieces of junk even worse than the miserable excuse for a battery that Sony sells. I understand that Li-ion batteries have a finite life, but there is no reason Sony has to charge hundreds of dollars for a component which cost them less than 10 dollars to make in Japan (or China). If the battery cost $50 then maybe I wouldn't mind it crapping out before its one year anniversary. But having a list price of $399 and discounted to merely $250 it's a complete ripoff.

Not recommended,

This battery is very expensive and not worth the price. The battery that came with my laptop died in about a year, so I bought this one hoping that it would last longer. But it lasted only for a year. Very bad quality. Strongly not recommended.

On Vista this battery gives me about 4.5 hours. Over priced but if you need extra hours on the go you need it. The old regular battery dies in 20 mins after I have had it for almost 2 years.

Says 5 to 10 hours, I'm lucky if it lasts 3 1/2 hours of use.
Use it at school because there are no close outlets. With class lasting 4 + hours, I ended up bringing an extension cord. Also, very expensive. Not worth the price.

Good Battery but I Haven't Had it Long,

I've had my SZ230P for almost three years now, and the original battery that came with the computer will last only a little longer than 1.5 hours. I am a student and have lectures that run about 1.5 hours, but there is one class where access to an outlet is not convenient. So, I bought this battery, and it arrived just in time for my 3-hour make-up lecture in that particular room. I am very impressed with the battery. I run the machine on Maximum (not Ultimate) Battery Life, and I got over 4 hours out of it with time to spare (it still had 30% left when I was finished).
I am concerned with some other reviewers who have had their batteries longer than I have, but I can only hope that this battery will last as long as the one that came with my laptop. The only reason that it didn't warrant a full 5-stars is that it takes a really long time to charge the battery now. I'm not sure exactly how long it will take to fully charge as I am a busy student holding down two jobs, and I don't stay in one place long enough to know how long it will take to charge to 100%. In the end, it doesn't really matter because the battery lasts long enough that I don't need a full charge to accomplish what I need to between charges. So far, very highly recommended.

not too bad; overpriced, just like any other laptop batteries,

I have seen many people complain about this battery so I suppose I could share few tips to let the battery last longer and thus better battery life;
1. I have a Sony Vaio SZ220 which uses Windows XP Home Edition. 2. I have bought this extended battery about 1 1/2 years ago, and when I first bought it, it went up to 7:30hrs of battery life with "Ultimate Battery Life" found in my laptop and up to 6:00hrs with "maximum battery life". Now since I had this battery for 1 1/2 years, of course I can expect this battery to actually dwindle in capacity which I would right now get 4 hrs of battery max on Ultimate battery life. 3. I'm sure even Windows Vista have "Maximum battery life" and "Ultimate battery life". When I first bought my Vaio SZ220 it was a energy star certified, as far as I know. 4. This battery is overpriced compared to battery costs from Dell and Apple, but if you only insist to use Vaio you'll have to live with it. Just try to use the "Maximum battery life" and "Ultimate battery life" to see the difference.

Large battery holds own, so far,
This review is from: Large Capacity Battery for VAIOŽ SZ, FE, AR, N, C, FS, FJ and S Series notebooks (Personal Computers)
I've had this large capacity battery now for about a month and I am getting around 4.5-5.0 hours of charge on it regularly. So no problems and it is working as expected. My worry is that I also previously had a large capacity battery that I ordered with my Viao about 2 years ago. That battery routinely held a 3.0-3.5 hour charge, with no problems though daily use until one day it just up and died with no warning. So, yes I am glad that I have a new working battery with a long charge, but I am weary that it will just up and die at some point. Oh well, what can you do.

Used it four times and it was dead forever when I plugged it in during a plane trip when I really needed it. The problem with all Sony laptops is the batteries which suck.

I bought this battery so I wouldn't have to carry around my charger to school for the three hours of class I have. This battery works great and last longer than 3 hours of heavy typing and web searching. If it's idle it can last longer than 8 hours or more.
The best thing is watching people who have a MAC having to carry around their chargers because their batteries won't last more than 3 hours.

My new battery went dead in less than a year. The battery that came with the laptop- puchased new direct from sony- was totally dead in less than a year. Wont take a charge. Have to use the ac adapter always. Not ok.
