Product Description
This basic calligraphy set is made in China and has all the basic materials needed for your ink drawing or calligraphy work. A good set for beginners!
It includes 6 brushes (9 1/2 inches long) with assorted sheep and or wolf hair bristles (brush may have bamboo OR plastic handles), an ink stick, ink grinding stone, water dish and spoon, brush rest big enough for 4 brushes, a soap stone chop stamp to carve your own stamp and some red chop ink paste in a porcelain dish with dragon design cover.
This large calligraphy set is in a pretty cloth covered rectangular shaped box (7" by 11") so all you need is water!
FREE package of 20 sheet calligraphy paper included with this purchase!
Outer box is either red or green brocade cloth.

This is a horrible set, very touristy and not meant for someone who actually wishes to learn Shufa/Seoye/Shodo. I want to prevent westerners and anyone else who may not know better from buying this kit.
The brushes are of horrible quality, the hairs are not secure in the handle (they fall out very easily, at the lightest touch), and some of the brushes are even broken.The inkstick is fake, made for tourists, probably composed of burnt car tires, and it smells horrible. Real inksticks intended for serious use will smell fragrant with Chinese herbs and medicines. Needless to say, it makes poor quality ink, and good luck using that tiny ink grinding stone. The seal paste that comes with it is not the stuff that artists in East Asia use. It is cheap, and if you use it with a seal, it leaves a pool of gross oil on the paper around the imprint of the seal. Do not use it, unless you only wish to test your seal. The little spoon that comes with the water dish is made of yellow plastic, and not metal. The lion carving on top of the seal was disfigured and poorly carved on the one that came with my set. The seal itself is usable though (one of the few good things about the set). The only reason why I do not give this product only a single star is because it comes with a usable seal, and the brush rest and paper weight are also decent.

Please ignore the people complaining about this set. It is for a beginner or a student just as the seller claims. This is not represented as a top of the line item, but it is just what you need to get started. This is a beautiful set at a very good price. Price the items in this kit separately, or what you get in a smaller kit and you will appreciate it even more. My daughter is in high school, a third year Chinese language student who can also write in traditional charachters. She has shown an interest in Chinese calligraphy......she will be so excited when she sees this gift. I am an artist. I had a small amount of Chinese ink and some bamboo brushes that I used for painting only and they were great. If you knew anything about the materials, these are of good quality not trash as others are implying (those are not paperweights by the way). The only thing I wish was different was it would be nicer if it had bamboo brushes. These are plastic, but there are six and they are different. Therefore good for experimenting even though they are not bamboo. If they come apart, electrical tape them!! Or when your student decides which brushes work best, replace those few with bamboo. Remember, this is a starting point, but a full traditional set in a charming box to complete it. Also I received it all the way from the west coast intact, before anything else in my large Amazon order came.

I expected a better quality product for the price I paid for this item. It comes in a very cheap container that does not hold the contents securely. Appears to be made from cardboard. Very poor quality. The brush hairs are already coming out and it hasen't even been used yet. It was also packaged poorly and arrived soaking wet. The paper that comes along with this product was also poor quality.
