I have actually owned this Bible for several years now. But somehow I lost it this spring, and I've been searching to find another one. The chain reference is the most awesome feature I've ever used in a bible. Any topic that you happen to read can be looked up from the marfin to all of the other similar verses in the bible. It's archaelogical suppliments are interesting, but not quite as useful to me. Believe me, I wouldn't give it five stars if it didn't truely deserve it though. The only problem is that the new editions are study bibles, and don't have the wide margins to take notes in. I'd have to say, go buy it, even if you don't need a bible right now, cause the tools that it offers really are almost invaluable.

Having read many of the reviews before ordering this Bible, I can verify that the reviews accurately describe the positive aspects and negative features. The cross-reference is like no other Bible I've ever used. For a reader doing biblical research, those features are fantastic.

However, the paper is VERY thin. If you are a reader who marks your pages, you should buy a different Bible. Anything you write on one page will be completely visible on the reverse side.

The only thing I don't remember reading is the WEIGHT of this book. Because it is a large print book, it is quite heavy. If you are thinking of purchasing this as a gift, you should consider if that person can comfortably carry such a heavy book. For example, my elderly mother might find it too heavy for daily use.

That being said, for my uses and reading habits, this study Bible is just right.

I was disappointed to find the Bible that I bought was listed as leather only to open it upon arrival and find it is BONDED leather. It's like comparing particle board to real wood grain. Not as good quality, not as durable.

The Thompson Chain Reference Bible is an indispensible Bible study tool because each verse has many links to the the same or similar subjects throughout Scripture. You can also use the chain reference section in the back similarly to a topical Bible. The concordance is quite a bit more exhaustive than those contained in most Bibles. I got the large print version when I misplaced my standard size. While still not huge print (remember: they've packed a lot of reference, concordance, maps, charts, etc. in as well), it is indeed easier to read and still a manageable size to carry around. Sadly, many Christian bookstores do not regularly keep these in stock, so people don't get a chance to compare them to other styles.

Wonderful purchase. The large print is very easy to read. The layout of the bible is very easy to maneuver and find what you are looking for. Easy to find scriptures for many many topics. I would definitely recommend this item for purchase.
