4.0 out of 5 stars sturdy and useful for bagel lovers
Perhaps I appreciate this invention because several years ago I had to go to the emergency room because I had cut myself while cutting a bagel. It turns out that ER-via-bagel is one of the more common occurrences. The thing is sturdy and would easily work for a small bagel/bakery stand. Kudos to its inventor(s)!

This review is from: Larien Products Commercial Bagel Biter Bagel Cutter
I have owned the original version of the bagel biter (residential version) for a few years and used it a lot.
The only issue I had with it was that it was/is hard to get larger bagels in to cut, and the blade got dull and is not replaceable.
So, when I went to replace it I saw the reviews here for the commercial version and several positive comments about cutting larger bagels.
So I bought this product and what I found is that it is the identical size of my original version...2" X 5". This was a disappointment.
The ONLY differences I see are that this one says for Commercial use only, it is grey and the original was white, and the blade is replaceable (nice feature).
Otherwise they seem to be identical. I still struggle to fit my bagels from Giant into the cutter. Also, the cost on Amazon of the residential version is about the cost of a replacement blade for this product. So in retrospect I would have just bought the original version for a lot less $$ had I known they are really the same except for replaceable blade.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Product!, January 7, 2007

This rascal works GREAT! I put a half frozen bagel in it and it cut through no problem!

I would HIGHLY recommend it over a holder and knife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cuts bagels like butter, July 8, 2006

I first saw this being used in a hotel breakfast establishment in Sedona, AZ. The server gave me the name of the product and I ordered it from Amazon. This cuts bagels (right from the refrigerator also) with ease. You can even cut one using only one hand!!! It is totally safe because the blade is encased in hardened plastic. I just love it. Use it all the time. I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't always work, June 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Larien Products Commercial Bagel Biter Bagel Cutter
The great reviews got me interested in the Bagel Biter, after I gave myself a minor cut one morning. I was especially impressed that it holds the Costco sized larger bagel. But there's a problem. We freeze our bagels and then thaw them in the microwave just before cutting them and putting them in the toaster. The just-thawed bagels are little softer than fresh ones and the Bagel Biter just smooshes them into a little squished up pile of bagel inside. It just doesn't want to make a clean cut. So I have to take the bagels out of the freezer ahead of time and let them thaw, which I often forget to do.

Also, I find the cuts (in the Costco bagels anyway) are lopsided. One half is always a bit bigger than the other which is really not what I had expected after reading the great reviews. So we still use it once in a while, but it's definitely not a standout.

We came across this item while on vacation at several hotels that had "fix your own breakfast" included like waffles, cereals, fruit, toast and bagels. It is so slick! We had to have one too!! Just put your bagel in and it slices it perfectly! No more cut fingers and crooked bagels!! My kids love using it and it washes up very easily!! Well worth the money!!! And we don't have to buy the precut grocery store bagels any more. We can buy the GOOD KIND!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best..., February 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is simply the best and easiest bagel slicer I have ever owned. I bought this one because my original one got dull after 12-15 years, but they have solved this by making the blade replaceable. I have limited dexterity, and I only need one hand to use this one, and no chance to cut myself. Well built, sturdy, durable.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more awkward slicing, January 19, 2008
I first used this product at a hotel in Vermont and thought I must have one. With the volume of use it must get it has to be a quality product, and it is. It makes slicing a bagel so much easier, especially if you have arthritis, or just prone to slicing it crooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Slicer for Large Bagels, December 28, 2008
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Larien Products Commercial Bagel Biter Bagel Cutter
This bagel slicer is perfect for slicing large bagels. I purchase most of my bagels from Costco and they are pretty large. I've been looking for a bagel slicer that would accommodate the girth of the bagel and this is it.

The slicer is easy to use, the blade is very sharp AND it's dish washer safe. It's also a heavy duty slicer that should last a long time.

My husband and I both use the slicer and we both like it. I'm no longer paranoid about cutting my hand.
