5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece for you own Personal Library, December 8, 1999
By
Paulabeth Weinberger (Allentown, Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lark on the Wing (Hardcover)
I read this book because a friend recommended it to me. I read it in the likes that I would learn more about her. I did. I began to read this book for my own personal benefit - however I got so into it I couldn't put it down or it stressed me to stop. It's a tale of romance, dreams, friendships, and music - most of all music. I would recommend it to anyone 10 & older. It's a masterpiece that should be added to everyone's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lark on the Wing, October 5, 2008
This review is from: The Lark on the Wing (Paperback)
A picture of loveliness, sweetness, and natural charm, that is seventeen-year-old Kit. Wanting more than anything else in the world to sing, she must decide how badly she really wants to achieve her life's dream. Will she let others deter her from her goal or will she find the strength to persevere to the end?

Set in the late 1940's, Kit must overcome a series of obstacles, from lack of money, to discouraging remarks from friends who don't support her, to others who belittle her ambitions.

In order to make a living she finds work for a Quaker organization. This offers an interesting peek into Quaker life, while breaking down any pre-conceived misconceptions about them

Since Kit is studying voice, the reader is also exposed to a realistic view of the skills and hard work required to pursue a serious study of music.

But if the reader is not interested in Quaker life or music, the book is primarily a book about relationships. Especially interesting for teen readers of this age is Kit's romantic feelings for the young men in her life. Who will be the young man she gives her heart to? The irrepressible Felix or the serious Terry?

A sequel to The Lark in the Morn, The Lark on a Wing creates characters that are warm, funny, and friends the reader would like to know. The story is fast paced, moving smoothly from scene to scene. The conflict offers lots of suspense, holding the reader's attention to the end.

Kit is a charming young woman, who must learn to find her way in life, undeterred by the overbearing, good or ill intentioned remarks of those around her. Will she find her life's dream? Will she open her heart to loving the young man or irrepressible, fun loving boy in her life?
