Muito Bem,

~I upgraded to the Larousse Concise Portuguese-English dictionary from a smaller, even more concise model issued by another publisher. Though it meant slightly more weight to lug around Brazil, I compensated by packing little clothing and benefited tremendously from my decision. I recommend this dictionary for its combination of pragmatic and colloquial entries (let's face it, some dictionaries can be downright prude) as well as academically inclined ones. All in all, this is a comprehensive and~~ easy to use dictionary whose reasonable heft (it's not pocket sized unless you're a kangaroo, but it's not too heavy either) is well offset by its scope and ease of use.~

Larousse Portugues-Ingles Dictionary,

A great dictionary for portugues-ingles translations. Currently using for an advanced Portuguese class for which this dictionary is essential. Was using Harper-Collins which was not sufficient; additionally, the binding in the Harper-Collins hard-cover dictionary was pitiful and pages started falling out after less than a month of use. This dictionary is definitely the better of the two. Rated at 4 stars because some of the translations are not completely correct (with Brazilian use).

Not at all what I expected,

"Incomplete" is the best word to describe this dictionary. I'm Brazilian, and for a native speaker this dictionary is far from "avançado" (meaning "advanced") as its Portuguese title suggests; incidentally in direct opposition to its English title: "Concise Dictionary." I bought it as an aid for a small translation project, and I am disappointed. It doesn't have words such as "mentoring" and "stewardship." I've had to revert to online searches, as I had started, in order to find an adequate translation for several words - a much more cumbersome method. If you need a truly advanced English/Portuguese Portuguese/English dictionary, keep looking; this is not it.

I took this pocket dictionary around Brazil with me. It is very complete and convenient. For most words it includes little contextual phrases. There's also a verb conjugation summary at the beginning.
This is the best Portuguese-English/English-Portuguese dictionary I have, even counting my larger ones. It's the best travel dictionary I know of.

Terrific,

Larousse dictionaries are much, much better than any of the others. Bantam's are decent and Oxford's are ok, but you will get frustrated eventually if you are actually trying to speak the language. Their dictionaries for some reason seem very "regionally challenged." Only Larousse successfully includes a wide range of colloquialisms, is not afraid to publish the naughty words (which you will definitely hear), and manages to make the dictionary portable, readable, and affordable. I really like this dictionary.

My students in an adult ESL class find this dictionary indispensable when working in class or on their own. It is reasonably priced and contains most of what they need.

My father bought this book new and from Amazon, and we got it about one week ago. This dictionary is very good and almost complete. There's even a part of this book devoted to advices about life in Brazil, USA and England. The failures are some dificult words, who don't exist on it and other small failures.

I have been using this dictionary and Harper Collins Portuguese Concise Dictionary in translation work over the last six months or so. Together, they are quite serviceable. Harper Collins is definitely easier to read, as it is printed on white paper, as opposed to the newsprint Larousse uses. Larousse, however, includes verb tables, while Harper Collins has no such amenity. Larousse also has a section in the middle with cultural and communication information. In my experience with many languages, including Portuguese, no one dictionary has proven perfectly satisfactory for all purposes, so I recommend getting both Larousse and Harper Collins, and for easier reference to the vast array of sometimes quirky verb forms, add 501 Portuguese Verbs.

Really Good Reference,
This review is from: Larousse Concise Dictionary: Portuguese-English/English-Portuguese (Portuguese Edition) (Paperback)
I used this dictionary for my beginning Portuguese class, and was very happy with it. More often than not,I was able to find words in this dictionary that my classmates could not find in theirs. It's a little bulky, and probably not good for traveling (too big to put in a regular sized purse), but when I travel to Brazil in a few weeks I will use this dictionary for my classes, and then buy the pocket size for when I am out on the street.
