Very best of the Christian Blues,
By
This review is from: Larry Howard's Cornerstone Blues Jam Volume 1 (Audio CD)
Recorded live at the Cornerstone Christian music festival in July, 1992; It has all the energy of a live album. It has some of the best artist and coming together to play as friends. The 5-song tribuit to Mahalia Jackson.
The style varies a lot, from fast to slow, with a few driving rock blues (Guardian, Mark Farner), Delta Blues, Gospel Blues (Jessy Dixon), and a lot of Chicago Electric Blues (Glen Kaiser). Eddie Degarmo and Margaret Becker are not known for the Blues, but they sing the blues here. Glen Kaiser and Darrell Mansfiels with his harmonica are at their best. I have about 40 CDs of Chistian Blues. This is best Christian Blues CD I have heard.

I was satisfied with this product. When I received this album the case was broken at the hinges and would not stay together but the disc itself was in great condition. I once owned the VHS cassette tape of this concert but it tore up and broke a long while ago. So I was excited to have something of it back in my media library. And what's even more is that this disc has a few songs on it that was not on the VHS tape. I miss watching the actual concert but considering that it isn't to be found anywhere on DVD this is a wonderful replacement.

My review is a mixed bag. I like Larry Howard, Glenn Kaiser and Darrell Mansfield when they have worked together. This recording sounds over-baked and way too busy for my taste. A better record in my opinion to own is Brush Arbor's Live/Centerstage.

This is meant to be played loud and live! It is raw and fresh. Everyone knows that the blues started in slavery days, walkin' behind a mule but what most forget is that it was not grown from bondage but freedom, the freedom of the gospel. This takes you full circle. The weight of this world meets the burden lifting grace of God. This should be an annual event like Clapton's Crossroad concerts. The guests span the breadth of gospel music. Rockin' blues from Mark Farner, Eddie DeGarmo, Kaiser and Mansfield meet the soulful blues of Jesse Dixon and Margret Becker. Then the finale of a tribute to Mahalia Jackson bridge all social barriers, like the gospel should, and take us together right to the throne of heaven! If you love blues and Jesus this is for you.

Good sampling of Christian Blues (and one rock song),

This is my favourite compilation of Christian Blues. And Guardian rocked with their song. I wish they would re-release the video.
