Larry's own remarkable career, first as a crew chief and now as a network television broadcaster, has itself become a Big Picture - a unique saga of triumphs and trophies mixed with the sternest of trials and tribulations.
Here, then, is Larry's story, told with the same perceptiveness and attention to detail that Larry shows in the FOX broadcast booth as a NASCAR color announcer.
You'll fly with Larry on the final, poignant airplane trip from New Hampshire with the late Davey Allison after two years of amazing ups and downs. You'll take the frantic ride in the NASCAR pace car out to turn two at Michigan after the devastating crash than nearly killed Ernie Irvan. You'll join Larry in victory lane with Dale Earnhardt after his most dramatic victory - the 1998 Daytona 500 - and learn the truth about his troubled times with the Intimidator. And you'll read insider stores as only Larry can tell them, including more than one blow-by-blow visit to the dreaded NASCAR "woodshed" for a bawling-out by NASCAR chairman Bill France himself.
Reaching back to his earliest days in racing as a volunteer mechanic in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, Larry and co-author Bob Zeller weave a fast-paced, smooth reading narrative that takes readers and race fans on a high speed ride through some of NASCAR's most dramatic and memorable moments.
As a color analyst on FOX's popular NASCAR broadcast team, Larry has helped FOX win some of NASCAR's highest television ratings ever. As a Winston Cup crew chief for 15 years, McReynolds won 23 races, including two Daytona 500s, and worked with the sport's greatest drivers, including Dale Earnhardt, Davey Allison, David Pearson, Ernie Irvan, Neil Bonnett, Ricky Rudd, and Cale Yarborough.
Through it all, McReynolds kept his eye on the Big Picture-the greater achievement of long-term goals and accomplishments, especially in the face of setbacks. This is Larry's story, his own Big Picture of a remarkable career jam-packed with thrilling successes, heartbreaking defeats, grief, comebacks, and above all, a willingness to work hard and a determination to never give up.

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting, fun, and full of anecdotes about NASCAR. His "Big Picture" includes the 18 months he spent with my favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. Part of the book is what we see on TV, but the better part is how NASCAR and broadcasting work behind the scenes, and what it does to family and friend relationships. A really great read. I didn't want to put it down.

I'am a Mike Skinner fan, but Larry comes down on him and does not hold punches on any of the Drivers he was with. I think it is a great book.

I must admit that I was not a Larry McReynolds fan when I bought this book. I am also not a fan of the race broadcasts on FOX, on which Larry McReynolds now broadcasts. I bought this book because I am always trying to see all sides to any story. And I wanted to hear Larry's story.I found this book to be informative, honest, and it has really changed my view of Larry McReynolds. I found myself almost crying right along with him as he told about the deaths of Davey Allison and Dale Earnhardt, and the near death of Ernie Irvan. I have gained a world of respect for Larry McReynolds and, while I am still not a FOX fan, I have become a Larry McReynolds fan. It's nice to know that a good, hard working man can succeed, excel and have a great story to tell. I recommend this book to any racing fan.
