The creators of the sensational 3-D computer-animated series VeggieTales transport their goofiest character--Larryboy--into the traditional world of 2-D line-drawing animation for a new Christian-lite comedy series. In this first episode, Larryboy (the superhero alter ego of Larry the Cucumber) takes on the dastardly Awful Alvin, who has made sure any angry citizen of Bumblyburg stays angry thanks to his legions of batlike eyebrows. The gentle lesson of letting go of anger is massaged with the typical VeggieTales high jinks. Many of the well-known VeggieTales stars make appearances; Bob the Tomato is editor of the newspaper where Larry is not a Clark Kent-like reporter but rather a janitor. Also included is the silent short "Fly by Night," in which Larryboy takes on a pesky fly. Ages 4 and older. --Doug Thomas

From the Back Cover

In the tradition of VeggieTales. It's just another day at The Daily Bumble. Or is it? Larry the Cucumber, armed with his two-way radio mop, quietly and inconspicuously monitors the pulse of his fair city. But when he receives word that super-villain Awful Alvin has unleashed his latest plague – a swarm of angry eyebrows - on the tranquil town of Bumblyburg, our mild-mannered janitor transforms into crime-fighting cucumber crusader, Larryboy! Descending upon any citizen who "lets the sun go down on their anger, "will Larryboy discover the eyebrows' one weakness? Will these hairy hooligans--this litany of lashes--forever plague this otherwise friendly hamlet? Or will the one cucumber capable of wielding a radar-guided spatula restore order and goodness to Bumblyburg once and for all? Find out about the importance of letting go of anger and forgiving others in "Larryboy And The Angry Eyebrows!" Includes the hilarious BONUS short; "Fly By Might!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Another classic, March 20, 2002
Larry Boy finaaly gets his own series! Working as the janitor at the Daily Bumble *he wasn't qualified for other positions* where he can keep an eye on the town. Several favorites are back: Bob, the editor in chief, Jr, an reporter, and Larry's faithful butler Archibald. A whole produce truckload of new characters arrive, among them: a new girl cuke reporter, a matronly fungi inventor, and the wise master Bok Choy, who teaches the superhero class at Bumblyber Community College.

The villians this round are Awful Alvin and his sidekick, Lampy. *Lampy is one of my favorite new characters* Alvin's evil plan is to relase angry eyebrows on the city, making the people, er, vegtables hold on to thier anger. Can LarryBoy withstand the attack? Can he defeat Alvin and Lampy? *after the main feature, the short "Fly by Might" is shown. Standard Tom & Jerry fare*

In the special DVD features, there are interviews, kareoke, character development, and other fun diversions.

Mike and Phil have another winner with The Angry Eyeballs. I recomend this for ages 6-126. *Even teens like me love the Cucumber of Steel!*

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, April 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Larryboy - The Angry Eyebrows [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My family and I are big Veggie Tales fans so when I saw that Big Ideas had released a new Larryboy video, I bought it immediately.
I was disappointed in it. The characters look different and I agree with the reviewer who wrote that it lacked the same wholesome qualities that its predecessors had. Though better than most cartoons on the air now, I wish Big Ideas had stuck with its original format. My boys love it, but the spiritual reasons for not staying angry were weak, something that was always strongly emphasized in previous videos. Overall, I would recommend this video only if they had purchased other Veggie Tales movies. I would not recommend it as a first choice.

While I understand what some people are saying about the style, as other reviewers have noted there was a reason for the style change. Big Idea is trying to go down a path where the videos can be produced more quickly so that kids (parents) have a greater variety of Christian alternatives to choose from.

My 3-year-old son LOVES this video. He's big into superheros right now, and Larryboy isn't the normal angst-ridden fare with a terrible dark side. And he has good moral lessons to teach, as well as showing that even if you forget or make a mistake, you can still make it right by listening to God.

My 6-year-old daughter likes it, too. And how often does that happen?!

Good family fare, unless you don't want your kids to watch the same program 2-4 times in a row.
